I'm your host, Patty Danda, and on today's episode I have a guest who's from sunny Phoenix, and I'm really jealous because I know he'll be in a much better place than I when it comes to the weather, but he is a chief Results Officer, I believe he's the only Chief Results Officer in the whole of America. And he's a telex speaker as well as an author. So I'd love to welcome Blaine Okes to the show. Hey, Blaine, how you doing?[00:01:42] Blaine Oelkers: Yeah, so thank you for having me on the show and yes, I am America's only Chief Results Officer, and I feel like I found my niche and so for me, I like to help people take control of their lives by taking control of themselves. And I think I was born to do that, and when I figured that out, My life got a lot more fun and now I spend my days basically helping people with personal implementation. How do you get yourself to do those things that you know you should do, but also how do you get yourself to stop doing those things, you shouldn't do? I spend a couple decades doing that and I enjoy helping people kind of better themselves. Oh, I love[00:02:17] Paddy Dhanda: it. So for this episode, Blaine, what superpower would you like to bring?[00:02:23] Blaine Oelkers: Yeah, so I'd like to discuss the superpower of self fluence. So self fluence is the art and science of influencing yourself, or would I like to say the power you already have to influence yourself. And by using that power, exercising that power, you can do things like create new habits in 21 seconds instead of 21 days. You can do something I call the 30 minute hour how to get an hours worth. Of stuff done in just 30 minutes or maybe perhaps even hack your head trash. We all have those kind of voices of doubt, those shadows in our minds. But you can take control of all that stuff. And the nice thing about the, this concept of self fluence is that everything you need is within reach. You're already doing it. And if you decide, you can master it. So those are some of the, the backdrop to this superpower of self fluence influencing yourself.[00:03:16] Paddy Dhanda: Oh, I love that. I definitely need the superpower blade, so I need to steal it from you somehow. So, really excited to hear more of your insights on just how we build the superpower. But before we do that, I'd love to know how you got into this space and your background, because your title was really intriguing and I'd love to know how you came up with that.[00:03:38] Blaine Oelkers: I had a few moments of dawning comprehension, right, where we're kind of, you're never the same, the light bulb goes off and it's kind of that aha moment . And for me, The first aha moment actu

Thank you for joining us for another episode of the Superpower School podcast. I'm your host, Paddy dda, and on today's episode I have a special friend who I've been trying to get on the podcast for. Probably months and months, but we finally made it happen. She is an n l master practitioner, a trainer, a leadership coach, and a the co-founder of Kaga where her. Official title is Chief Mischief Maker, which I prefer rather than all those other fancy titles. And she's someone who we always have a running joke, was probably Indian in her last life as well. And we'll reveal all on that. But I just wanna welcome the amazing Kerry Nichols to the show. Hey Kerry.[00:01:54] Kerry Nickols: Oh, thank you, Paddy. Thank you. I was thinking about two things then just in those introductions. When I first set up KEPAGA, I had another business just before then. I dunno, 20 odd years of working in investment banking, never got to choose my title. It's always a title that's given to you. So as soon as we set up Kaga and we thought, well, we were once asked, what is your title? And I thought, actually I don't have fun and I can make it up. So, I would say that. More people connect with me on LinkedIn and just say, I love your title. Chief Mischief Maker. It connects me with more people than I think anything else has.[00:02:46] Paddy Dhanda: That is super cool. I love that. I know, again, you got my attention straight away when you said that for the first time. And I think more of us should do that, right? We should kind of, explore different titles. I was speaking to a colleague just recently and they were thinking of what title to give themselves and they were looking at a really grand title and I tend to agree with you, I think make it interesting.[00:03:08] Kerry Nickols: For sure. There was some research done. And the idea came from a book that I read where it said that if we only look in our professional lives and the things that we do, if we only ever look at that in terms of the role that we do, we miss out on, on the mission that we're on and who we are and.The kind of uniqueness that we bring to the table and that never gets explored because you have a corporate title. It might be VP engineering, you know that. But what does that doesn't really, that just kind of. Buckets you into something. And I get it. Matrix organizations, large, massive organizations, need some way in which to do that. But I would also love to s

We work with leaders to help them design organizations and teams, like we say, get real work done in reality, which we happen to believe is the only place that good work happens. And so we're pretty pragmatic about how we think about the work of organizational design and team design because it's all about the outcomes that we can deliver and the high performance that we're capable of.And you know, it turns out we have to do that in reality. The reason though that I'm so committed to reality and being really pragmatic and how I even got into the work of agility is that years ago I used to be a teacher. So I come at this work from my background in public education, and I first discovered agility as a thing when I was teaching. And even though. Checking it out, he instantly knew that this new magic of radio and TiVo mixed together was a breakthrough, and he knew instantly that he was going to create his own podcast one day. By 2007, Erik and a friend had a comedy podcast that was named by iTunes as one of the top 10 new comedy podcasts. During this time, Erik began interacting with the podcast community online and began cohosting on other shows as well. When one of those shows stopped being produced in January 2012, Erik knew it was time to start his own show. What kind of positive transformation could we create in our lives with this simple yet powerful change? In this episode, we will explore the power of reframing the language in our heads and how it can help us live better, more meaningful lives.Maria Jeffers (Transformational Coach)I am passionate about helping ambitious professionals to feel daily joy and excitement in life rather than any of the following: Overwhelm, Stress, Procrastination, Anxiety/worry, Fear of Judgement, Self-consciousness, Lack of confidence, Lack of self-belief, Resistant to change, Perfectionism, Exhaustion, Lack of Trust, Lack of focus. In 2021 I completed the EMCC coaching accreditation and became a licensed user of the globally evidenced mental toughness assessment. I have also completed a 12-week international high performance coaching programme, which enables me to coach at an even deeper level. Having both a theoretical and practical understanding of the mindset and behaviours required for achieving high performance enables me to support others to achieve their vision. I am passionate about building a strong sense of wellbeing in others, as without wellbeing high performance is unsustainable, can be unenjoyable and lead to burnout. After many years of investing in my self-development coupled with my corporate background within the occupational psychology field, I am 100% confident that I can help others to thrive. E68: Self-Help - What Is The Current State Of Cybersecurity - Christian Espinosa (Author of Smartest Person In The Room)
In each episode, Paddy deep dives into a new human Superpower and practical advice on how you can apply it immediately.⚡️ What Is The Current State Of Cybersecurity? The current state of cybersecurity is an increasingly concerning topic as cyber threats and attacks increase in frequency and sophistication. With the digital transformation of businesses, organizations of all sizes must stay ahead of cyber threats and remain vigilant against potential cyberattacks. From data breaches and ransomware attacks to phishing scams and malicious software, organizations are facing a wide array of cyber threats. The severity of these threats may vary, but they all have the potential to cause serious harm to an organization. Cybersecurity is a top priority for organizations as the potential impacts of a breach can range from a financial and reputational loss to a total disruption of operations. Organizations are responding to this challenge by increasing their investments in cybersecurity training, technology, and personnel. Additionally, organizations are implementing security protocols to protect their data, networks, and systems. These protocols include authentication systems, encryption technologies, and access control measures, as well as basic cyber hygiene such as patching, malware protection, and email security. The current state of cybersecurity is also being shaped by the rise of cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT). In the cloud, organizations must ensure that their data and systems are secure and protected from unauthorized access. Meanwhile, the IoT presents a unique set of challenges as it increases the attack surface and introduces new threats such as botnets, device hijacking, and data manipulation.Christian EspinosaChristian Espinosa is the bestselling author of “The Smartest Person in the Room”, an entrepreneur and founder of Alpine Security, a white hat hacker, a certified high-performance coach, and a lover of heavy metal music and spicy food. Phil Black is the founder of the Mira app and shares his passion for how he is looking to transform the way children learn. As a lifelong learner, I believe that the art of how to learn is a fundamental skill that should be taught in school. Unfortunately, schools have largely failed in teaching this important skill, leaving students ill-prepared to take on the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The ability to learn is the most valuable asset any individual can possess, as it allows them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to remain engaged and competitive in their chosen field. Learning is a skill that can be developed and improved with practice and dedication, and yet so often students are taught to memorize information rather than developing a deeper understanding of the subject material. Without understanding, knowledge fails to stick and students are unable to apply the skills they have learned in meaningful ways. The ability to learn is not only important for professional success, but also for the development of personal growth and creativity. The ability to learn and adapt quickly to new challenges and situations is key for any individual. The ability to learn and develop new skills allows individuals to stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive in the ever-changing landscape of their chosen field. It is time that schools recognize the importance of teaching students the art of how to learn. From online safety and privacy to freedom of speech, the digital realm is becoming an essential tool for those seeking to build a better future. But what does this mean for those affected by displacement, protest and other forms of social upheaval? In this blog, we explore the role of cybersecurity on refugees, migrants and protesters, and how it is impacting the global landscape.Rikke Bjerg JensenI am a Reader in the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway, University of London. I am a social scientist and ethnographer. My work explores information security needs, perspectives and practices among groups of people living and working at the margins of societies. It focuses on how technology, as it is shaped by social structures, relations and interactions, facilitates multiple security experiences and understandings. My work is thus grounded in research with and within distinct groups of people, engaging the often hidden, unvoiced and/or marginalised groups not generally considered in the design of technology. Most recently, I have worked with seafarers, refugees, migrants and protesters. ‘The margin’ is thus loosely defined and can be understood in cultural, economic, geographical, occupational, social terms. Before becoming a Lecturer and now Reader in the Information Security Group, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Geography and Department of Law and Criminology, also at Royal Holloway. I obtained my PhD from the Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), after having completed an MA in International Journalism. Both at the University of Westminster. I also have a BA in Drama and Performance Studies from Aberystwyth University.👉 Podcast Website: https://www.superpowers.school/👉 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/paddydhanda/👉 Contact Paddy at: pardeep_dhanda (at) hotmail.com★ BUY ME KO-FI ★If you enjoy the podcast, then you can donate a small amount here as a token of your appreciation: https://ko-fi.com/paddydhanda--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/superpowers-school/message Get full access to Product Powers at www.superpowers.school/subscribe
