(The Sunday on the Way to Jerusalem) - February 27, 2022
Blind Bartimaeus is the prototypical example. First comes the Word, then the confession of faith, and then the seeing. “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Blind Bart knows the Scriptures and the promises of God attached to the Messiah-King after David. So, in faith worked by the Spirit, he confesses the truth when Jesus comes near. He can’t see Jesus but trusts Him anyway because He has the Word of promise. And confessing Jesus, He receives what Jesus alone can give: “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.”
