Patrick Wayne Swayze (1952–2009) was a versatile American artist renowned for his work as an actor, dancer, and singer-songwriter. His career was defined by a series of iconic performances in commercially successful films and cult classics, where he consistently portrayed a unique blend of romantic sensitivity and physical toughness. Swayze achieved a major breakthrough with the 1987 romantic drama Dirty Dancing, a role that showcased his professional dance training and earned him his first Golden Globe nomination. He solidified his status as a leading man with blockbuster hits like the supernatural romance Ghost (1990) and the action-thriller Point Break (1991). Beyond his mainstream success, he earned acclaim for diverse roles in films such as The Outsiders (1983), Road House (1989), and the drag comedy To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995). A licensed pilot and Arabian horse breeder, Swayze's personal life was marked by a 34-year marriage to Lisa Niemi, a public battle with alcoholism, and a profound interest in spiritualism. In his final years, he fought a highly public battle with pancreatic cancer, continuing to work and delivering what was considered the best performance of his career in the television series The Beast before his death at age 57.
