“All right, so then he says, ‘What right did he have to involve those dependent upon him? How could he possibly make a public statement exonerating his rival?’ He can’t get that from anyone else, can he? He’s got to go to the power on the inside. I have to put myself in the position—how would I like to be approached if the roles were reversed? Who did I harm? He didn’t even know it was the whole congregation of the church. He stole their money and ruined another person’s reputation. Who knows what happened to that man’s family? I’m trying to help you understand the story they’re telling so you can grasp what any lengths might look like, because their stories are very illuminating if you pay attention to what they’re telling you.”
