“Have you ever had a thing pending and you decided not to do anything about it, then you went and got your life started again, and suddenly it came up, ripping your whole life out from under you? You’re uniquely qualified to help others who are afraid of that experience. There’s no point if I’ve watched a lot of brave things in recovery, and some of the bravest are people who self-surrendered because they knew they couldn’t build on that shaky foundation. They only wanted to build one more time, even if it meant another stretch. I watched them do it, and it’s an emotional experience, but I’m proud of them every time, and it empowers me every time. So those of you who have had that experience, you can help a lot of people by telling them the truth about building on an unstable foundation.”
