“Why do you think this place was set up the way it was set up? Because people that have had a difficult experience like incarceration are skeptical about people who have book knowledge of it. That doesn’t mean we don’t acknowledge a need for professional help, but if I’m really going to trust somebody, I want someone to walk a mile in my shoes. Right? So we’re supposed to talk about ‘I know I once thought and felt as you do.’ I can’t do that if I didn’t. Not with any credibility. And it’s set up as the same model as this right here.”
