Wayne emphasizes that this principle connects deeply to the overall purpose of the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program and the Interactive Step Experience (ISE): advocating for our brothers and sisters, serving others, and growing spiritually in the process. It’s not about ignoring our needs but about finding relief and growth through service. By getting out of ourselves, we find peace and purpose. This concept, echoed in Step 12, serves as a guiding light in the recovery journey.
In both AA and ISE, this focus on service and stepping outside of our own desires helps us grow spiritually and develop meaningful relationships with those around us. It’s a shift in focus—from self to others—that is crucial for lasting recovery and spiritual fulfillment.
