The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous warns us that resentment is one of the greatest obstacles to our recovery. It blinds us, traps us in a cycle of pain, and blocks us from connecting with a higher power. Step 4 calls on us to examine our resentments, identify how they have controlled our actions, and be willing to let them go. This is not about blaming others but about taking responsibility for our reactions and choosing a path of healing and forgiveness.
Wayne shares that resentment only leads to hopelessness and futility, preventing us from achieving the emotional freedom we seek in recovery. By taking a thorough moral inventory and facing our defects, we begin the process of true spiritual growth. Letting go of anger allows us to live with purpose and peace.
