He emphasizes the importance of engaging in general conversation first, as outlined on page 91 of the Big Book. Joe also highlights that the moment we humble ourselves to ask someone for help, we are already in Step 12—this step is all-inclusive in its nature. Helping others is not just a part of recovery, but the very foundation of it.
In Alcoholics Anonymous, Step 12 teaches us to carry the message and practice these principles in all our affairs. Joe encourages us to embrace humility and recognize that we’re already on the path of Step 12 the moment we ask for help or offer it to someone else.
