“Was it our self-esteem, our security, our ambitions, our personal or sex relations which had been interfered with? So we’re asking ourselves that question. You’re doing it in columns. Most of that’s self-explanatory. The self-esteem is how I’d like to think about me. And then our security is what is my being with you say about me; it may be my job, it may be my housing.”
Joe recounts personal experiences to illustrate these points: “Any of you ever get evicted because… Let me tell you how I would get evicted. I would have all the rent, but I needed just a little to get a little something something. And then after I had the something something, I realized by golly I can’t pay the rent short.”
Joe’s discussion sheds light on the relentless inner turmoil faced by those in the grips of addiction while offering a message of hope and the possibility of transformation through the 12-step recovery process.
