“See, some people get a fair amount of grace and sort of play the fool for a while, hang out in our fellowships, and then some crisis comes and they dig in, and all of a sudden they get better. And they go, ‘Why didn’t someone tell me this a long time ago?’ And people like Jim and Paul and Sean are sitting there going, ‘Well, we tried. We know. We know what it looks like. We know what it feels like. We know we cannot spare you from the experience you demand to have, but we can love you through it.’”
