Join Wayne Giles as he shares insights into the often complex topic of sexuality, particularly as it relates to Step 4 of Alcoholics Anonymous. In this session, Wayne reminds us that our sexual powers are God-given and inherently good. Whether we struggle with shame, misuse, or fear regarding our sexuality, it’s important to recognize that these feelings can either help or hinder our spiritual growth.
Wayne emphasizes the importance of not loathing or despising our sexuality, as doing so only harms ourselves. Similarly, using it selfishly or irresponsibly hurts others. Instead, we are called to embrace our sexual nature in a healthy and balanced way, striving toward our personal ideals with a spirit of growth and self-reflection.
As Joe often points out, the word “must” in AA has a deeper meaning. It’s not about a sense of obligation but about realizing that if we’re committed to recovery, why wouldn’t we want to strive toward being our best selves? In this reflection, we are encouraged to see sexuality as a vital part of who we are, deserving of respect, understanding, and care.
