WNBA Expansion Draft: Portland Fire & Toronto Tempo Set to Debut with New Talent
The WNBA is welcoming two new teams, the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo, through an expansion draft on April third, 2026. The teams will debut in May, joining the leagues existing franchises. A coin toss on March twenty-seventh will determine the first pick in the expansion draft or the sixth spot in the first round of the regular WNBA draft. Existing teams can protect up to five players each, leaving the rest available for the newcomers. The expansion draft runs two rounds in a snake format, with the team picking first going second in the next round. ESPN will air the draft live at twelve thirty PM Pacific Daylight Time.
