Former security guard Jesus Mendez Ayala sentenced to 27 months in prison for excessive force at Portland bar, following a December 2022 incident at El Mojito PDX. Ayala pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted assault, after pepper spraying and firing pepper balls at a man, and instructing another guard to strike him with a baton. The victim suffered broken fingers. Prosecutors emphasized the excessive nature of the force used. Alyn Bomgardner, another guard involved, previously pleaded guilty and received a two-year sentence.
