Gene Derfler, former Oregon Senate President, passed away at 101. Born in Portland, he served as a naval aviator, built a business career, and entered politics. Derfler represented his district in the Oregon House and Senate, becoming Senate Majority Leader and President. He reformed the states workers compensation system. Last month, lawmakers honored him.
