Dawn Potter, a renowned poet and educator from Portland, has been appointed as Maines seventh poet laureate. She will succeed Julia Bouwsma starting July 1st. Potter, who runs poetry and teaching programs and teaches online, has been recognized for her blend of poetry and education skills. She has published or edited ten books and was a finalist for the National Poetry Series. The role, established in 1995, aims to promote poetry, literacy, and literature across Maine.
