Brewer School Department Settles Lawsuit with McBreairtys Estate: A Long-Standing Dispute Comes to a Close

The Brewer School Department in Maine has reached a settlement with the estate of local conservative activist David McBreairty, just before a jury trial was set to begin. The dispute originated from an article McBreairty published about the school, which included a photo of a student. After removing parts of the article at the schools request, McBreairty sued the school for violating his First Amendment rights. Following McBreairtys death by suicide in 2024, his widow, Patricia, took over the case. The settlement, which includes no payment of legal fees and the dismissal of the lawsuit once papers are signed, brings an end to this long-standing dispute.
