Ep 350Recap of the final Pac-12 football weekend w/ Oregon punching its ticket to play Washington in Vegas
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio recapping the very last Pac-12 regular season football weekend, not just for the season but unfortunately forever. We knew Washington had locked up the No. 1 seed for the Pac-12 Championship game but we didn't know who the Huskies would face. Now we do thanks to Oregon's beatdown of Oregon State in what could be the final game formerly known as the Civil War for the foreseeable future.Meanwhile the Huskies kept their playoff hopes alive with a narrow win in the Apple Cup over Washington State (luckily, that game is set to continue for at least the next five years). Arizona still had a shot at a conference championship until the Ducks took care of business, but that did not deter the Wildcats who absolutely dominated ASU in the Territorial Cup.A beat up Utah squad survived an upset bit from a beat up Colorado squad, Cal came into the Rose Bowl and gave the UCLA administration more to think about when it comes to keeping Chip Kelly into the Big Ten era plus Stanford got embarrassed by Notre Dame on the very last Pac-12 Network football broadcast. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 348Recapping Pac-12 week 12 games including Washington topping Oregon State and Arizona beats Utah
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions host Ryan Abraham is podcasting solo with birthday boy David Woods off in Hawaii for another one of his numerous vacations. Ryan is back in studio recapping what was a full slate of week 12 games in the Pac-12 that featured two ranked-on-ranked games, Friday night lights, no Saturday Pac-12 After Dark, two rivalry games and three teams fighting to stay bowl eligible. The signature game featured the No. 5 Washington Huskies taking down the No. 11 Oregon State Beavers in rainy Corvallis. Despite a below average performance by Michael Penix and not scoring in the second half, UW was able to sneak out with a 22-20 win with the difference being a bad OSU punt snap that turned into a first half safety. No. 17 Arizona also made a statement by blowing out No. 22 Utah at home, jumping out 21-0 in the first quarter against a Utes squad that was once again banged up with key players out injured. In the rivalry games UCLA made a statement and rallied around embattled head coach Chip Kelly, blowing out USC 38-20 in the Coliseum while Cal went into Palo Alto and took down Stanford with few problems. No. 6 Oregon had no trouble in the desert, jumping out to a 42-0 halftime lead over Arizona State with Bo Nix throwing 6 touchdown passes and Washington State steamrolled Colorado to end the Cougs 6-game losing streak and giving the Buffs their 5th loss in a row. With one week left Washington has clinched its spot in Las Vegas and Oregon and Arizona are the only other two teams alive to face the Huskies.Ryan also talks about Cam Rising announcing his return to Utah, the latest AP Poll, the winner of our Pac-12 Survivor Poll plus OSU and WSU take another step towards becoming the Pac-12 in 2024.For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 347Previewing Pac-12 week 12 games including No. 5 Washington at No. 11 Oregon State
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio previewing a full slate of week 12 games in the Pac-12 that features two separate ranked-on-ranked matchups, two rivalry games, three teams trying to keep bowl eligibility alive, one Friday night game and no Pac-12 After Dark contests on Saturday night. The headline matchup is the last game of the day, featuring No. 5 Washington in Corvallis to take on No. 11 Oregon State at 4:30pm on ABC. The other contest featuring two ranked teams is No. 22 Utah on the road taking on No. 17 Arizona in Tucson.Week 12 gets going Friday night with Colorado taking on Washington State in Pullman and both the Buffs and Cougs need a win to keep their (slim) opportunity to play in the post season alive. Both USC and UCLA have faltered late in the season but something will have to give when the Trojans and the Bruins face off in the Coliseum at 12:30. No. 6 Oregon will head to the desert to take on their former offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and ASU. The final rivalry game, what they like to call Big Game, features 3-7 Stanford hosting 4-6 Cal at 3:30 on Pac-12 Networks. The guys also discuss the latest on the Pac-2 lawsuit with Oregon State and Washington State winning a key court battle and reportedly setting up a scheduling agreement with the Mountain West for the next two seasons. Plus the report from BRO that UCLA head coach Chip Kelly will likely be fired after the season. Ep 346Recapping Pac-12 week 11 games including Washington topping Utah and ASU's upset of UCLA
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio recapping what was a full slate of week 11 games in the Pac-12 that featured Washington's comeback home win against Utah, Oregon taking care of USC in Autzen and Arizona State's huge upset of UCLA in the Rose Bowl. The guys start off the show talking about the breaking news that Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson has resigned and the Sun Devils will look for a new AD to lead the athletic program into the Big 12. Anderson shouldn't have been hired in the first place and the fact that he lasted for a decade is baffling, but ASU does have a young, up and coming head coach in Kenny Dillingham and he could use a similar AD to help the transition to the new conference and navigate the changing landscape around college football.Washington moved to 10-0 on the season after shutting down Utah in the second half in Seattle. Oregon got 400 passing yards from Bo Nix as they took care of business against USC in Eugene. Arizona got a scare on Boulder but held on to take care of Colorado thanks to a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter. UCLA couldn't find its offense while Arizona State utilized the swinging gate to keep the Bruins off balance en route to their 17-7 upset in the Rose Bowl. Washington State outplayed Cal in Berkeley but turnovers sunk the Cougars hopes of breaking their now 6-game losing streak. And Oregon State absolutely pasted Stanford 62-17 in Corvallis. The guys recap all of the action and reveal their latest Pac-12 Power rankings. Oregon, Utah and Arizona also made statements with decisive wins while Oregon State survived a trip to Boulder and Stanford notched another road win against a struggling Cougars squad. The guys recap all of the action and reveal their latest Pac-12 Power rankings.Just before the show went live the news broke that USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch was fired by Lincoln Riley. Dave and Ryan give their reaction to the news right at the top of the show. The featured game of the day did not showcase a lot of defense and ended up being a fun duel between Heisman Trophy candidates Caleb Williams and Michael Penix with plenty of run game support including Dillon Johnson's 256 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Ep 337Previewing an absolutely HUGE week seven of Pac-12 football featuring Oregon at Washington
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio previewing an extremely important week seven of Pac-12 football with games that could separate the contenders and the pretenders. The action gets started on Friday night with Coach Prime looking to improve the Buffaloes to 5-2 as Colorado hosts the reeling Stanford Cardinal. Could Troy Taylor and company shock the world and pick up their first conference win of the season in Boulder? The marquee matchup on Saturday features the No. 8 Oregon Ducks playing at the No. 7 Washington Huskies with ESPN's College Gameday making an appearance in Seattle. It's Michael Penix vs. Bo Nix with the winner having the inside track to make the Pac-12 Championship game plus have a leg up in the race for the Heisman Trophy. In a game that doesn't impact the conference race but could give the Pac-12 a boost in the fight to make the College Football Playoffs, No. 10 USC is on the road taking on No. 21 Notre Dame. If Caleb Williams can come away with a victory, it keeps the Trojans in the top-10 and gives the entire Pac-12 another huge out of conference victory. In Salt Lake City all eyes will be on the Utah Utes and specifically if quarterback Cam Rising finally plays after the bye week. California and is resurgent offense pays a visit facing an extremely tough task, a stout Utah defense in Rice-Eccles Stadium.No. 19 Washington State returns home and tries to get a bounce-back victory with Arizona coming to Pullman. Both teams played in LA last week where the Cougars offense fell apart in the Rose Bowl and the Wildcats nearly pulled off the upset, losing in triple overtime in the Coliseum. The #Pac12AfterDark game has two more ranked teams facing each other with No. 18 UCLA heading to Pacific Northwest to face No. 15 Oregon State. The Bruins could have the best defense in the conference but winning against a hot DJU in Corvallis will be a tough task. The guys will preview all of the games and make their picks against the spread. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.DON'T FORGET TO ENTER YOUR PAC-12 SURVIVAL POOL PICKS HERE!!!For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 336Recapping all of the week 6 Pac-12 football action including UCLA's D coming to play against WSU
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio recapping a slow week six in the Pac-12 with Oregon, Washington, Utah and Stanford on bye weeks and no ranked-on-ranked matchups taking place. Despite the lack of intrigue going into the weekend, there were some exciting finishes and results from all of the week six games, starting with a dominating defensive performance by the UCLA Bruins. Arguably no team was hotter than the Washington State Cougars but that hot streak ended Saturday in the Rose Bowl. Chip Kelly's squad isn't lighting up the scoreboard quite yet, but the defense is for real as Cam Ward and the Cougs found out.Coach Prime wasn't happy with the effort but his Buffs were able to go into Tempe and get the win against their future Big 12 foe Arizona State. Oregon State's defense took a few hits from California but the Beavers were able to push their record to 5-1 by hanging 50 on the Fighting Justin Wilcox's. The craziest game of the weekend came with three-touchdown favorite USC needing triple overtime and some untimely Jedd Fisch poor decisions to take care of Arizona in the Coliseum. The guys will recap all of the games, reveal their new Pac-12 Power Rankings and how their picks against the spread worked out for week six.As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.DON'T FORGET TO ENTER YOUR PAC-12 SURVIVAL POOL PICKS HERE!!!For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 335Previewing Pac-12 football week six featuring Washington State at the Rose Bowl to face UCLA
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio previewing what looks like an underwhelming week of Pac-12 football with Oregon, Washington, Utah and Stanford on bye weeks and no ranked-on-ranked matchups on the schedule. The most intriguing game will happen at the historic Rose Bowl with Washington State facing off against UCLA with both teams coming off a bye week. The Cougars are fresh off their impressive home victory over Oregon State while the Bruins are trying to bounce back from their less than impressive offensive performance in Salt Lake City against Utah.Colorado will hit the road and try to bounce back from two-straight losses when they head to Tempe to take on a struggling Arizona State squad. Oregon State will test their ability to play on the road when they head south to take on California. Arizona nearly upset Washington at home and now they head to Los Angeles to try and upset the USC Trojans. The guys will preview all of the games and as always make their picks against the spread. Ep 334Recapping week five in the Pac-12 with a Beavers flex and USC and Washington escaping on the road
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio to recap all of the exciting action that was week five of Pac-12 football that featured a Friday night ranked-on-ranked matchup in Corvallis and a couple of near upset bids over a couple of conference favorites. The Conference of Champions slate of games got off to a great start Friday night when Utah hit the road to take on Oregon State. The Beavers bounced back nicely from their loss in Pullman and took care of the Utes 21-7. For the second week in a row Utah only managed 7 offensive points and while they did a nice job of shutting down OSU's ground game, their inability to offense was too much to overcome in the newly renovated and vibrant Reser Stadium. There were three near upsets to discuss with Colorado giving USC all it could handle in Boulder, Arizona falling just short against Washington in Tucson and Arizona State blowing a chance to get a road win at California. Oregon looked like they were on upset alert for the first 20 minutes or so before rattling off 42-straight points in their blowout of Stanford on The Farm. The guys recap all of the games, talk about their rough weekend picking against the spread and reveal their latest Pac-12 Power Rankings. After that Arizona State will try and bounce back without quarterback Drew Pyne and win a road game against California. The red hot No. 9 Oregon Ducks travel south down the 5 freeway and take on the Stanford Cardinal on the Farm. Ep 331Recapping Pac-12 week three football games and previewing the first week of conference play
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio recapping what was a less than interesting week of Pac-12 football where the Conference of Champions finished 9-2 in out of conference play. The guys also preview the first week of full conference games that includes three ranked Pac-12 matchups. With USC on a bye week, the remaining seven ranked Pac-12 programs won their contests including a closer than expected double-OT thriller in Boulder, a Washington waxing in East Lansing and the Ducks drubbing Hawaii in Eugene. The big news came from the bottom of the conference where Arizona State got skunked by Fresno State and Stanford lost to Troy Taylor's old squad Sacramento State. Obviously, the Sun Devils and the Cardinal occupy the basement in our Pac-12 Power Rankings. Now that the majority of out of conference play is in the books, it's time for the cream to rise to the top with Pac-12 conference play! This week No. 19 Colorado is on the road taking on No. 10 Oregon, No. 22 UCLA heads to Salt Lake City to take on No. 11 Utah and in a Pac-2 preview No. 14 Oregon State is on the road at No. 21 Washington State. The guys preview all of the Pac-12 action and make their picks against the spread. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio to recap an absolutely stunning weekend of Pac-12 football where everyone, and we mean everyone, scored more points than their opposition. Including USC's week zero win, the Conference of Champions is 13-0 to start it's final season in existence and is the first conference to start off with 13 wins since at least 1980.Coach Prime and Colorado were the talk of week one, stunning No. 17 TCU on the road behind impressive performances behind Travis Hunter on both sides of the ball and quarterback Shedeur Sanders who threw for 510 yards and four touchdowns.Cal scored 50 points for the first time since 2016, Utah clobbered Florida missing several key starters, Oregon scored 81, Washington rolled over Boise State, Oregon State dominated a tough San Jose State squad on the road and Arizona State sneaked out a win during a haboob dust storm that delayed their game nearly three hours. The guys breakdown what impressed them from all of the games from opening weekend and reveal their Pac-12 Power Rankings that feature a new No. 1 team and Colorado moving up to the top half of the Conference of Champions. Before the games even got started the news broke that Califord, California and Stanford, would be joining the Atlantic Coast Conference along with SMU starting in the 2024 season. Before the start of each Pac-12 football campaign Ryan and Dave go through the entire schedule and document their picks for each program in the Conference of Champions, including the eventual winner in Las Vegas. They also begin their game previews and picks against the spread in this episode (with only week zero game on the schedule), San Jose State visiting USC on Saturday night. The show starts off with the breaking news that USC has hired away Jennifer Cohen from Washington to become the Trojans new athletic director. It should be an exciting final season in the Pac-12 with as many as six teams in the mix to win the last Conference of Champions championship. On paper the Pac-12 appears to have an upper class and a middle class and it will be interesting to see if any of those lower ranked teams are able to jump up and derail the season for the programs in the upper half of the standings. Ryan and Dave reveal which teams they are believing in and which teams they think are the bottom dwellers in the conference as they reveal their game by game picks and prediction for regular season records. For week zero there is only one Pac-12 program in action, the USC Trojans. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams leads the way against San Jose State at 5pm Saturday night in the Coliseum. Ep 322Part one of our Pac-12 football previews (actual football talk)
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio and NOT talking about conference realignment (well, maybe a little). With the opening weekend of the 2023 college football season just a couple of weeks away the guys jump right in with their Pac-12 previews. For months all of the focus has been on the pending demise of the Pac-12 conference, which finally came to fruition last week. But the last year of the Conference of Champions should be an epic one, with half the conference having a legit shot at winning the title, several of the top quarterbacks in the country and three exciting new coaches including Coach Prime in Colorado. This week the focus is on previewing the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, Colorado Buffaloes, Oregon State Beavers, USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins. After the previews the guys talk about the latest rumors surrounding Cal and Stanford potentially going to the ACC, what could happen with Washington State and Oregon State and the newly released preseason coaches poll. Also, does commissioner George Kliavkoff have a future with the entity formerly known as the Conference of Champions? As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 321EMERGENCY Podcast of Champions - RIP to the premier athletic conference on the West Coast
In another special EMERGENCY episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back discussing the sad and disappointing news that the Pac-12, the premier athletic conference on the West Coast for more than 100 years, is dead. The Conference of Champions was listing for the past 13 months after it's hull was breached by the USC and UCLA defection torpedoes. There was a path to save the ship but commissioner George Kliavkoff seemingly made the situation worse at every turn, allowing for the final death blow from Oregon and Washington on Friday followed by Arizona, Arizona State and Utah getting off the sinking ship thanks to a Big 12 life raft. The guys talk about this shocking development that comes just two weeks after the commissioner assured the college football world on Pac-12 Media Day that everything was going to alright. It wasn't and it wasn't close. Now we have to wait and see what happens with the remaining four members, Stanford, California, Oregon State and Washington State, who are unfortunate casualties in the conference realignment madness. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 320The rumored Pac-12 media rights deal & more potential Big Ten expansion
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about the reported new Pac-12 media rights deal that commissioner George Kliavkoff presented to the remaining nine presidents and chancellors. According to reports the top deal on the table is heavy into streaming with Apple TV carrying the majority of the games with a separate Pac-12 package that would be available for purchase. The reported revenue is below what the Big 12 has with ESPN and Fox, but there are revenue boosters that kick in when more fans subscribe. There is also multiple reports that the Big Ten is looking to expand further with their sights set on Oregon and Washington with the possibility of adding Stanford and California as well. Clemson and Florida State were also mentioned, but both of those programs are locked up for years with the ACC's grant of rights deal. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 319EMERGENCY Podcast of Champions - Colorado is leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12
In this special EMERGENCY episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods rushed into the studio to talk about the BREAKING NEWS that Colorado is planning on leaving the Pac-12 and joining the Big 12. Of course our own Mr. Woods was the first to report this months ago, but with real reporters putting this out there now appears to be much more official. The guys talk about this shocking development just days after Pac-12 Media Day where commissioner George Kliavkoff said a media rights deal was imminent and that all 10 member institutions would be sticking together. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 318Recapping Pac-12 Media Day from Las Vegas
Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods were in Las Vegas for the 2023 Pac-12 Media Day, the first such event in Vegas and the last event that USC and UCLA will be a part of. Commissioner George Kliavkoff hasn't spoken publicly this calendar year despite all of the negative press surrounding the Conference of Champions' lack of a media rights deal. Most felt the unofficial deadline for announcing the new TV rights was on Pac-12 Media Day, but Kliavkoff made it clear from the jump that there would be no such announcement yet. He wanted the focus to be on the football (which should be the best we've seen in a decade) but unfortunately there has been so much buildup and anticipation for this media rights deal that the focus couldn't be on anything but the survivability of the conference.Everyone knows that without at least a decent TV contract that brings much needed revenue to the Pac-12 athletic departments there is a legitimate chance that at least one or two members could bounce. If that happens it is debatable if the conference could even survive after losing USC and UCLA last year. Kliavkoff and the athletic directors are still confident there will be a good deal and everyone will stay put, but until it happens the speculation will continue to run wild and overshadow any football boom the Pac-12 teams could have on the field of play. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 317All-Pac-12 Preseason squad by position plus Media Day preview
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio counting down towards Pac-12 Media Day by going over their preseason All-Pac-12 teams by position including projecting the 2023 pecking order for all of the teams in the conference. The Pac-12 sent out their preseason media ballots so the guys go over who they selected and discuss their picks to win the conference in the final Pac-12 season that will include USC and UCLA.With just over a week before the media gather in Las Vegas for Pac-12 Media Day, the conference still hasn't announced their long awaited media rights deal. The guys talk about the possibility that commissioner George Kliavkoff doesn't have a deal in place by media day. If there is no deal the focus will certainly be on the uncertain future of the conference with no television contract instead of the stacked upper half of the conference, the stable of high caliber quarterbacks including the reigning Heisman Trophy winner in Caleb Williams and new head coaches Deion Sanders, Kenny Dillingham and Troy Tayler looking to turn around Colorado, Arizona State and Stanford respectively. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 316Ranking top head coaches in the Pac-12 plus NCAA's take on NIL collectives
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio trying to figure out what they can talk about while everyone patiently waits for the long awaited announcement of the new Pac-12 media rights deal. To help pass the time the guys bring in Dave Bartoo, co-founder of Matrix Analytical, to talk about where the head coaches in the Pac-12 are ranked according to his analytical data analysis. They have USC head coach Lincoln Riley as the No. 3 head coach in the country and tops in the Pac-12, but he's on the same tier as two other Pac-12 head coaches. Bartoo goes over a few tiers of head coaches with Riley at the top and brand new head coaches (with no data) like Kenny Dillingham at the bottom. They guys also talk about the new NCAA memo that addresses how colleges and their respective collectives should be handling Name, Image and Likeness for student athletes. Will this memo have any teeth and scare off some of the more aggressive collectives out there? Probably not, but it should be fun to see the NCAA try to put the toothpaste back in the tube. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 315More Pac-12 media rights rumors continues plus SDSU tries a power move
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about the latest rumors surrounding the pending Pac-12 media rights deal including the potential of an uneven split of post season generated revenue and a rather low annual number floated out there by WildcatAuthority publisher Jason Scheer. The Atlantic Coast Conference has already discussed trying to appease its power members with uneven splits of College Football Playoff bonuses and NCAA Tournament bonuses, giving the postseason participants a greater share. There has been talk that the Pac-12 is discussing a similar strategy, rewarding programs that invest more into their revenue sports. The guys also talk about San Diego State informing the Mountain West Conference of their intent to leave and their request for an extension of their June 30 deadline for official departure notification (afterwards their exit fee would go from $17 million to $34 million). SDSU doesn't have a destination yet, presumably the Pac-12 or the Big 12, but they are trying to find a way to get out as cheaply as possible if a Power Five offer materializes. They also talk about the Pac-12 recruiting rankings for the class of 2024 and give an update on Colorado's roster situation including Coach Prime telling naysayers to take their shots now because they won't be able to shoot later. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 314Pac-12 Grant of Rights agreement, early TV schedule release plus Holiday Bowl suing UCLA
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions host Ryan Abraham is back from another long vacation and then got sick so the show with David Woods was postponed. Now Ryan is in studio and David joins remotely, talking about the reported Grant of Right agreement between the remaining Pac-12 programs (as long as a suitable media rights deal comes to fruition). They also talk about the release of the television schedule for the first three weeks of the Pac-12 football season with some interesting match-ups on at some interesting times (and on interesting channels), including Colorado on national television for all three weeks, twice on Fox's Big Noon Kickoff, Washington at Michigan State on Peacock and Florida coming to Salt Lake City on an ESPN Thursday night broadcast. The guys also talk about the Pac-12's longtime partner, the Holiday Bowl, suing UCLA and the conference for the Bruins cancelling the game hours before kickoff back in the 2021 season.Of course, how can we have a show without more conference realignment talk? The guys discuss the latest rumors surrounding Colorado's flirtation with the Big 12 and Arizona State University securing AAU status, making them a more appealing target for other conferences. Jason Scheer also tried to torpedo his own mentions when he Tweeted, "Washington is recognized by both the Big 10 and Pac-12 as having more value than Oregon."The SEC announced they would only be playing 8 conference games in 2024, despite the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the rotation. This makes it possible for those bottom dweller SEC programs to beat four nonconference cupcakes, go 2-6 in conference and still make a bowl game. They round out the show talking about Ryan's extended vacation, the Pac-12 paying $10 million to un-renovate their San Francisco offices, the Pac-12 Media Day moving to Las Vegas and the continued silence of commissioner George Kliavkoff on any and all topics including the most important one, the Pac-12's new media rights deal. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 313Pac-12 in last place in Power Five for annual revenue, more media rights rumors plus USC AD Mike Bohn resigns
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods return to talk about the newly released Pac-12 annual revenue numbers that while came in at record levels, are still dead last among the Power Five conferences with a $21 million gap per school between the Big Ten. The guys talk about what those numbers mean and how that gap is only going to increase with the new SEC and Big Ten media deals kicking in next year. The guys also talk about the latest on the Pac-12 media rights front including interviews by Washington State president Kirk Schulz and Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson, giving two very different timeline estimations for when this deal will finally get done. There is also a deadline looming if the Pac-12 wants to add San Diego State for the 2024 season, as the SDSU exit fee of $17 million to the Mountain West will triple on July 1.Plus the Pac-12 is making some changes to enhance the television product for football games including putting microphones on players and coaches pregame and interviews with head coaches during games and the new proposed California legislation that would allow football athletes to share athletic department revenue. At the very end of the podcast news broke that USC athletic director Mike Bohn was resigning. The guys give their quick reaction to this out of the blue story with the Trojan athletic department now in search of new leadership with a move to the Big Ten on the horizon. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 312UCLA wraps up spring football plus more media rights deal rumors
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about the final Pac-12 program to wrap up spring football, the UCLA Bruins. Head coach Chip Kelly decided to forgo any sort of spring game, instead opting to finish the spring workouts with a Friday morning practice in front of about 50 fans that featured some situational scrimmage situations including wide receiver and defensive back one-on-one drills. Our own David Woods talks about UCLA's "15th training session" as Kelly called it, the starting quarterback battle, the reason the Pac-12 didn't televise the final practice and lots more. The guys also discuss the ongoing saga of the Pac-12 media rights deal including an interesting report out of Utah that claims that Amazon is out and ESPN is still in, but the sports leader has a financial cap on their tier one offer. They also talk about the Comcast overpayment mess, early odds to win the conference for all 12 programs and the crazy gambling scandals that are popping up across college athletics. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 311Pac-12 in the NFL Draft, transfer portal closes, the Colorado exodus plus Oregon spring game
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about the Oregon Ducks spring game that featured Heisman hopeful Bo Nix playing in front of 45,000 fans Saturday afternoon in Autzen Stadium. Dan Lanning's defense started out strong and kept the Ducks offense at bay in what turned out to be a low scoring affair with the Green team edging out the Yellow team 23-20. That leaves only UCLA as the lone Pac-12 program that has yet to complete spring football practice and as of now Chip Kelly has no plans to host an actual spring game. The guys also talk about how the Pac-12 programs did in the 2023 NFL Draft with 9 of the 12 programs getting at least one player selected (only Arizona, Colorado and Washington did not). Oregon led the way with six overall selections followed by Stanford (!!!) with five, USC and UCLA with four, Utah with three and Oregon State with two. California, Washington and Arizona State each had one player drafted over the weekend.Overall the Pac-12 had 27 players selected, the fewest among the Power Five conferences (SEC 62, Big10 55, ACC 32 & Big12 30).The NCAA Transfer Portal spring window has now closed and no one saw more action in the country than Coach Prime and Colorado. We get an update from BuffStampede.com publisher Adam Munsterteiger about how many players left and where the Buffs go from here to completely rebuild the roster heading into the 2023 season. The guys also discuss the overall portal numbers and a few of the Pac-12 players that made moves late in the window. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page! Ep 310More Pac-12 spring game recaps including 45,000+ fans in Colorado
In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking Pac-12 spring football with six more spring games occurring over the weekend including the sellout for the Colorado Buffaloes, 45,000+ fans to watch the debut of Coach Prime in Boulder. Despite four inches of snow falling and the field needing to be cleared, the Buffalos spring game spectacle went on as planned with ESPN broadcasting the entire event over two hours on Saturday afternoon. From one of the worst teams in college football history last season, Colorado now has a new sense of hope with the excitement around the program at historic levels, matching the increase in talent that Deion Sanders has brought in.There were also five other Pac-12 spring games scheduled over the weekend with Washington, Washington State, Oregon State and Utah completing their spring with various events on Pac-12 Network plus Stanford holding more of a televised practice with three more spring practices left for Troy Taylor's squad. We also look back at the Arizona State spring that we didn't get to on last week's show. The guys also talk about the latest reports regarding the Pac-12 media rights deal that suggests the conference could go with Apple holding all of the conference's tier one rights and a linear television partner that could be the CW. There is also a new lawsuit filed against the Pac-12 regarding the firings of a pair of former conference executives, Oregon State AD Scott Barnes is in stable condition after being hospitalized over the weekend, no more clock stoppages after a first down plus USC lands a five-star defensive tackle out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! Please subscribe, give the POC a five-star rating and post a review on Apple Podcasts!Sound off about Pac-12 football in our Podcast of Champions Reddit page!
