कदाचित् बौद्धविहारे भगवता बुद्धेन ज्ञातं यत् शिष्याः सर्वदा ध्यानमग्नाः सन्तः ज्वरग्रस्तं शिष्यम् उपेक्षितवन्तः इति ।तदा तान् सर्वान् आहूय - केवलं ध्यानमार्गेण गमनेन न प्रयोजनम्, दीनसेवादिभ्यः एव मार्गस्य शुद्धिः भवति, मार्गस्य अनुसरणं यावत् मुख्यं भवति, मार्गस्य शुद्धता अपि तावती एव मुख्या इति बोधयति ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)
Once, in a Buddhist monastery, Lord Buddha learnt that the disciples were always engrossed in meditation and overlooked a disciple suffering from fever. Then, Lord Buddha gathered them and enlightened them saying - : 'Simply following the path of meditation is not sufficient. Purity of the path is attained only through acts of humble service and similar deeds. Both meditation and compassionate service are integral components of spiritual practice and so on’.
