'श्रमं विना निश्शुल्कं यत् प्राप्येत तत् न स्वीकरणीयम् । भगवान् हस्तपादं यत् दत्तवान् तस्य उपयोगेन जीवनं चिन्तनीयं, न तु निश्शुल्कं प्राप्यमाणस्य स्वीकरणे प्रवृत्तिः दर्शनीया' इति मातुः वचनानुसारं काचित् बालिका गुजरातप्रदेशे रविशङ्करमहाराजेन वितीर्यमाणं गुडं न स्वीकृतवती । बालिकायाः वचनम् आश्चर्येण शृण्वन् रविशङ्करः बालिकया सह गृहं गत्वा स्वाभिमानपाठं बोधितवतीं मातरं दृष्ट्वा नमस्कृतवान् ।

"Anything that is obtained without effort and free of cost should not be accepted. The life gifted to us by God, along with our hands and feet, should be used wisely, and not in accepting something for free," said a mother to her daughter. Following these words, a girl from Gujarat refused the jaggery being distributed by the great Ravishankar Maharaj. Astonished by the girl's words, Ravishankar went to her home, where he saw the mother who had imparted this lesson of self-respect to her daughter, and he bowed in respect.
