कुम्भकर्णः जिह्वास्खलनकारणतः निद्रावत्त्वं वररूपेण प्राप्य चिरं निद्राति स्म । रावणः पुनरपि ब्रह्मदेवम् उपसृत्य कुम्भकर्णस्य अर्धवर्षं यावत् निद्रा इति वरं परिवर्तितवान् ।
Kumbhakarna's tongue slipped, while seeking boon, led to eternal sleep. Ravana intervened, praying Brahma to modify it to six month’s sleep and six months' wakefulness of Kumbhakarna.
