ताः धूमरेखाः

इब्राहिमलोदिः अफगानिस्थानात् भारतं जेतुं आगतः किन्तु तस्य सैन्यम् आसीत् अत्यल्पम् । लोदिः चिन्ताक्रान्तः आसीत् यतः अल्पसैन्ययुक्तेन कथं एतत् सुविशालं मराठासैन्यं जेतुं शक्यम् इति । सः दूरस्थं स्थानं आरुह्य मराठासैन्यशिबिरे अनेकेभ्यः स्थलेभ्यः धूमोत्पत्तिं दृष्टवान् । ज्ञातवान् च यत्  मराठासैनिकाः विभिन्नजातीयाः सन्ति, ते विभिन्न पाकशालासु पाकं कुर्वन्ति । हिन्दवः जात्युपजातिभेदान् कारणतः सहभोजनं निषिद्धं मन्यन्ते । तदा लोदिः अवदत् 'ये मनसा विभक्ताः तेषां पराजयः निश्चितः'। ततः, लोदिना यथा चिन्तितं तथैव प्रवृत्तं । ऐक्याभावात् मराठसेना पराजयं प्राप्नोत् । पानिपतयुद्धे तस्य जयः मुस्लिमशासनस्य प्रसारस्य कारणम् अभवत् ।

Ibrahim Lodi came from Afghanistan to conquer India, but his army was very small. Lodi was worried about how he could defeat the vast Maratha army with such a small force. He climbed to a distant place and saw smoke rising from various places in the Maratha army camp. He realized that the Maratha soldiers belonged to different castes and were cooking in separate kitchens. Hindus, due to caste and sub-caste differences, considered it inappropriate to eat together. Lodi then said, ‘Those who are divided in mind are certain to be defeated’. As Lodi had anticipated, this came true. Due to the lack of unity, the Maratha army was defeated. His victory in the Battle of Panipat led to the expansion of Muslim rule.
