देशसमृद्धिः न सुवर्णेन

कश्चन राजा सुवर्णनिर्माणविद्यां ज्ञातुं कस्मिंश्चित् आश्रमे मासं यावत् न्यवसत् । आश्रमे सः सत्सङ्गकार्यक्रमे भागम् ऊढवान् । अन्तिमदिने यदा संन्यासी अपृच्छत् 'श्वः सुवर्णनिर्माणविद्यां बोधयिष्यामि किम्?’ इति । तदा राजा अवदत् 'महात्मन्! तस्य आवश्यकता नास्ति । मम हृदयम् अमृतरसायनेन पूर्णम् अस्ति । सत्सङ्गस्य कारणतः जनाः लोभ-मोह-अहङ्कारादिभ्यः विकारेभ्यः मुक्ताः भवन्ति । अतः देशे सत्सङ्गानां व्यवस्थापनाय व्यवस्था करणीया । ततः प्रजानां जीवनस्तरस्य वृद्धिः, देशस्य समृद्धिः च भवितुम् अर्हति' इति ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)

A king once stayed in an āśrama for a month to learn the art of making gold. During his stay, he participated in satsanga (spiritual gatherings). On the final day, the sage asked: ‘Shall I teach you the science of gold-making tomorrow?’. The king replied: ‘Revered one, I have no need of that. My heart is already filled with the nectar of wisdom. Through satsanga, people are freed from greed, delusion, and pride. Therefore, arrangements should be made to establish satsangas in the land. This will uplift the lives of the people and bring prosperity to the nation.’
