In the Krishna avatar, Krishna is always seen wearing a peacock feather on his head. Do you know why? Once, during the forest exile, Sita was suffering from intense thirst. A peacock came and informed Rama and his companions that there was a water source nearby. To guide them, the peacock dropped its feathers along the path and walked ahead. Following the trail of feathers, Rama and others reached the water. But there, they saw the peacock in a dying state—it had sacrificed itself to help them. Moved by its selfless act, Rama said, “In my next incarnation, I will always wear your feather on my head.” That is why Krishna adorns the peacock feather with reverence and gratitude.
