वेदप्रामाण्यम्

दार्शनिकः कुमारिलभट्टः कदाचित् बौद्धदार्शनिकेन धर्मकीर्तिना पराजितः । तदा कुमारिलभट्टेन निश्चितं यत् बौद्धसिद्धान्ते तलस्पर्शि पाण्डित्यं प्राप्य एते बौद्धाः जेतव्याः इति । अग्रे सः वेदानां श्रेष्ठतां सयुक्तिकं प्रतिपाद्य बौद्धमतस्य दौर्बल्यं सप्रमाणं निरूपितवान् च । कुपिताः बौद्धाः 'यदि वेदाः प्रमाणं स्युः तर्हि पर्वतशिखरात् कूर्दनं क्रियताम्' इति वदन्ति । कुमारिलभट्टः वेदमातरं क्षणं ध्यात्वा सधैर्यम् अधः कूर्दितवान् च । अग्रे किमिति कथां श्रुत्वा जानन्तु ।

Kumarila Bhattaa, a highly learned philosopher in the field of Vedanta, was once defeated in a debate by the Buddhist philosopher Dharmakirti. After this defeat, he decided to study Buddhist philosophy thoroughly and prove its weaknesses in order to defeat it.
