पुराकाले कलिङ्गराज्यम् अशोकः पालयति स्म । इयं कथा अशोकस्य तस्य मन्त्रिणः च मध्ये प्रचलिता घटना नाम । अनया घटनया अशोकः मन्त्रिणं दर्शयति यत् 'यावत् जीवामः तावदेव मनुष्यस्य मूल्यम् । जीवाभावे मनुष्यशरीरं व्यर्थमेव । अतः यावत् जीवामः तावत् सत्पुरुषाणां महात्मनां च पादकमलयोः शिरःस्थापनेन जीवनस्य धन्यता प्राप्तव्या अस्माभिः' इति ।

Long ago, Ashoka ruled the Kalinga kingdom. This story narrates an incident between Ashoka and his minister. Through this event, Ashoka conveyed a profound truth: "A person's value exists only while they are alive. Without life, the human body is meaningless. Therefore, as long as we live, we must find fulfillment by humbly bowing to the feet of noble and great souls".
