台灣人的近視比例很高，年齡層有年輕化的趨勢，以前大約小五、小六開始近視，現在很多孩子提早到大班就有近視問題。
父母要注意，一旦發展到高度近視，就可能會提高成年以後罹患許多眼疾的機率，容易產生早年性白內障、青光眼、視網膜剝離及黃斑病變，甚至有10%會導致失明。
