This review was written and recorded by Greta Masarik, age 13.
Ep 155Spelling: Blended Families
"One tool that will make it easier to learn longer words is to be aware of consonant blends. You already do this without thinking about it and, for many children, their ears will tell them how this works without too much trouble. “Blends” are two or more letters that work together to make one sound, or that run together in such a way that it seems like one sound."

Ep 152Book Talk: Lois Lenski’s Small and Little Books
"Published in 1932, the illustrations were already quaint when I was a child in the early 1960s. I think that was part of the fascination. They were like peering into an old-fashioned dollhouse."
Ep 151Reflection: The Light of the World
"Jesus went on to say that the reason I should let my light shine before others is so they will glorify God when they see my good works. Before I get out my notebook and start making a list of the good works I could do, I need to focus on the goal: God’s glory."

Ep 141Reflection: Discernment or Judgement?
"Love increases with knowledge. The more we know, the better we can discern and approve what is excellent. At its root, the word translated “excellent” in the verse above doesn’t imply that one thing is better than another, but that it is separate or different. It reminds me of the Sesame Street song that asks children to identify one item in a group that doesn’t belong with the others. That simple song was teaching children to discern."

Ep 87Author Talk: Flannery O’Connor with Fr. Jordan Neeck, O. Praem
The night that we recorded this episode, we were plagued with both internet and microphone troubles. Ep 109Reflection: Dirty Hands, Strong Character by Sarah Applegate
Sarah Applegate, Diane's daughter, was homeschooled and is now homeschooling her children. From her reflection: Learning is a life-long process for your child and for you. The homeschooling process for your family will be ever-changing, but hopefully, constantly refining. Perfection is not an option in the lesson plans. Remember that there are people you don’t even know raising prayers on your behalf, and never forget that God gave those children to you and you to them, and He doesn’t make mistakes.
