Safe-injection sites are places where individuals can bring their own drugs, such as heroin and methamphetamine, and take them with clean needles under supervision of trained medical personnel. Although this progressive model has been successful in Europe and Canada, the first US city that attempted to open a safe-injection site was met with strong opposition from the surrounding community.
