Teach Kindergarten to Grade 2? Read and Spell Words Using this Strategy!
What is a word chain? A ‘word chain’ is a ‘chain’ of words linked together. In a chain each link is separate, but connected or linked together. A word chain is a chain of words that are similar, but one sound or phoneme in each word has changed from the previous word. For example, in the very short word chain ‘rip, sip, sap, sat, your child has substituted the beginning sounds of two rhyming words, ‘rip’ and ‘sip’, changed the medial or middle vowel sound, when changing ‘sip’ to ‘sap’ and substituted ‘p’ for ‘t’ when going from ‘sap’ to ‘sat’. Tap into the power of word chains to fast-track your child's phonics instruction!
