Romans 8:28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.Lamentation 3:22-23Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. God is faithful! How should we respond? 1. Be thankful (Gratitude)Psalm 16:11You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasuresat your right hand. 2. Be faithful (Faith) Romans 8:24-25 24 … in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? …we hope for what we do not yet have.25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.3. Be ready (Servitude) Romans 8:28 In all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Ep 86Resurrection: Experiencing His Resurrection Power

Philippians 3:10-11I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. How does the resurrection of Jesus impact our lives? 1. The resurrection power of Jesus gives us the hope of life. 2. The resurrection power of Jesus gives us the peace and boldness that this world cannot give. 3. The resurrection power of Jesus gives us amazing comfort. His resurrection power is available for usEphesians 1:1818 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. How can we experience the conquering power of Resurrection in our daily life?1. Believe: Simple Faith in Jesus “If you believe, you will see the glory of God.” (John 11:40) We must believe in a. His Person: Who He is b. His Power: What He can do c. His Plan (Work): What He is doing now 2. Obey: simple obedience to His word Obedience & Love John 14:15 “If you love me, you will obey my commandments."

Ep 85Resurrection: Death of Death

John 20:11-1611 but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. 13They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don't know where they have put him.” 14At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. 15“Woman,” he said, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” 16Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). I Corinthians 15: 54-56 “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 4:16-1816 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words. Resurrection: Death of Death How does the resurrection of Jesus impact our lives? 1. The resurrection power of Jesus gives us the hope of life. 2. The resurrection power of Jesus gives us the peace and boldness that this world cannot give. 3. The resurrection power of Jesus gives us amazing comfort.

Ep 84The King on the Donkey

Mark 11:1-11 1As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’” 4They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” 10“Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest!” 11Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. Ep 83Expanding Faith

2 Thessalonians 1:3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. We are called to build and live by the Most Holy Faith (Jude v. 17) Faith and Love Ephesians 1:1515 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,Galatians 5:6 …The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. 1 Timothy 1:5The goal of this command is love, which comes from…a sincere faith. The true faith grows and expands to love others. Expanding Faith is... 1) Faith that examines Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test? (2 Cor 13:5) 1 Cor 2:15 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 2) Faith that exemplifies John 13:15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Corinthians 11:1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. 3) Faith that exclaims Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes 4) Faith that extends 2 Corinthians 10:15Our hope is that, as your faith continues to grow, our area of activity among you will greatly expand, 16 so that we can preach the gospel in the regions beyond you. For we do not want to boast about work already done in another man’s territory.

Ep 82Faith Struggle

Mark 9:24“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”We are called to build and live by the Most Holy Faith (Jude v. 17) Spiritual Warfare Four Lessons on Faith 1. Priority of Faith 19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? John 6:29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." 2. Pleasure from Faith 19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. 3. Power of Faith “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Matt. 17:19-20, "Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’” 4. Prayer and Faith 29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.

Ep 80Faith & Word

Hebrews 11:1Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. John 1:1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Romans 10:17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. We are called to build and live by the Most Holy Faith (Jude v. 17) Reality of Living by Faith: A Time to develop Radical Faith in the radically changing world Three Major Problems 1) Uncontrolled Emotion 2) Therapeutic Culture 3) Misconception about God How can we stay active in faith? The Concept of Word John 1:1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. God's Word Psalm 119:9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. II Peter 1:19 19 Andwe have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attentionas to a lamp shining in a dark place, untilthe daydawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,Our Word Psalm 42:5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. People's Word Ecclesiastes 7:20-21 20Surely there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins. 21Do not pay attention to every word that is spoken Church's Word I Thessalonians 5:1111 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. Ep 79Faithful

Joshua 14:6-15 6 Now the people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of Godat Kadesh Barneaabout you and me.7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barneato explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions,8 but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear.I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.9 So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’ 10 “Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! 11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. 12 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.” 13 Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance. 14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly. 15 (Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba after Arba, who was the greatest man among the Anakites.) Then the land had rest from war. Numbers 14:24 24 But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. We are called to build and live by the Most Holy Faith (Jude v. 17) Reality of Living by Faith: A Time to develop Radical Faith in the radically changing world An example of Faith: Caleb Numbers 14:24 24 But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.Historical Background Faith is defined as "following" Caleb's Faith: 4 Characteristics 1) Commitment "Wholly followed the Lord." (Vv. 9, 14) 2) Confidence 10 “Now then, just as the Lord promised,he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; 3)Courage 12 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day.You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.” 4) Conquest 14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.15 (Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arbaafter Arba, who was the greatest man among the Anakites.) Ep 78The Gift of Faith

I Corinthians 12:7-11 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. We are called to build and live by the Most Holy Faith (Jude v. 17) Reality of Living by Faith: A Time to develop Radical Faith in the radically changing world Faith Standpoints in the Bible: 1. Natural (General) Faith 2. Saving Faith 3. Fruit of Faith (Faithfulness) 4. The Gift of Faith 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit... The Gift of Faith vs. the Gift of MiraclesHow can we build up such Faith? Keep on Asking Matthew 7:7-9 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Ep 77Building Up the Most Holy Faith

Jude 17-23But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." 19These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.20But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. 21Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.22Be merciful to those who doubt; 23snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted fleshUnderstanding our time 2 Tim 3:1-5But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—5 having a form of godlinessbut denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. Building up the most Holy Faith 1. Submit yourself through prayer in the Spirit v.20 build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. 2. Stay in God’s love21Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. 3. Spare those who doubt22Be merciful to those who doubt; 4. Ep 74Thrive 2021: Obedience

Proverbs 11:28 Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. We are called to THRIVE How can we thrive? (4 Ways)1. Believe as we seek the presence of Christ 2. Depend on the power of Christ 3. Obey the principles of Christ 4. Enjoy the providence of Christ We must obey the principles of Christ in order to thrive! Principles of Christ? The way of life according to God's word His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. (Psalm 18:30) 2 Tim 3:16-1716 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 1) We can trust God’s word to be true. All Scripture is God-breathed Psalm 119:160 The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting. II Samuel 7:28 Now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are truth, and You have promised this good thing to Your servant John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 2) We can trust God’s word to be profitable. All Scripture is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousnessa. teaching what is right (doctrine)b. rebuking what is not right (reproof) c. correcting how to get right (correction)d. training how to stay right (instruction) 3) We can trust God’s word to be empowering.so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.God's word empowers God's people to serve His kingdom via good works OUR RESPONSE Obedience is the proper response to the word of God because we trust in God’s word.James 1:21-2521 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. 1) Our obedience begins with humbly accepting God’s word. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 2) Our obedience requires ongoing action.22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 3) Our obedience results in receiving blessings.25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. Ep 72Becoming = Transformation toward Christ-likeness

Ephesians 4:11-16So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. 2 Corinthians 5:1717 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! The meaning of Becoming 1. Becoming more like Christ is God’s will for us.Romans 8:29 “29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” 2. Becoming more like Christ is God’s work for us.2 Corinthians 3:18 “18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” 3. Becoming more like Christ is the ultimate express of worship for God's gloryI John 3:22 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is Three Dimensions 1. UP 2. IN 3. OUT Three Perspectives1. Past 2. Present 3. Ep 69Finish Strong!

Hebrews 6:12We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. It is important to start right, but it is imperative to end well. An example of King Solomon I King 3:10-13“Since you asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have you asked for the death of your enemies, but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never be anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for both riches and honor so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.”I King 9:11“Since you have not kept my covenant and have disobeyed my laws, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants.” Solomon's Problem: Forgetting God's promise, power and plan I Corinthians 9:24-27 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 3 things about Faith 1. Faith is expressed in patience. Hebrews 6:12We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.2. Faith is not reactive but proactive. 3. Faith does not tolerate loose-end. How can we finish strong? 1. Keep remembering the promise of God "your promise preserves my life" Psalm 119:50 2. Keep believing in the power of God James 1:6-7 “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord 3. Keep pursuing the plan of GodRomans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasingand perfect will.

Ep 68Heart of Complaining

Philippians 2:12-16Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. 14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing,15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. Thanksgiving is...1. Attitude 2. Mark 3. Lifestyle Thessalonians 5:16-18,Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Numbers 11:1-3, 10-15Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.2 When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the Lord and the fire died down.3 So that place was called Taberah because fire from the Lord had burned among them. 10 Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled.11 He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their ancestors?13 Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’14 I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.15 If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me face my own ruin.” 1. Complaining is a deadly sin 2. Complaining discourages others 3. Complaining is contagious 4.Complaining is a symptom of deeper sin 14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing,15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. How do we fight against the attitude of complaining? How can we live a life of thanksgiving?1. Have the Right Perspectives: attitude of thanksgiving 2. Hold on to the Word: Obedience 1 Corinthians 10:6–12 ESV Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” 8 We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. 9 We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, 10 nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. 12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

John 10:10“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy,” How do we engage in spiritual warfare? Know Your Enemy: Three Tactics 1. Deception John 8:44 says devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”Rev 12:9 “The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.” 2. Division 3. Destruction John 8:44 says “44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning…” Know Your God TRUTH John 14:6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except UNITY John 17:2020 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.LIFE John 10:10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Know Your Identity 1. You are God's childrena. John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God2. You are God's victors a. 1 Corinthians 15:57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ3. You are God's army Romans 13:12-14. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. We are to fight through prayers! Ephesians 6:1818 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Ep 59Purification Through Repentence

Psalm 51Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. 6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place. 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. 14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. 15 Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. 18 May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar. 40 Day Prayer: praying for family, church and country 3 themes Purification-through repentancePerseverance by faithPreparation with hope Definition of Repentance1. Ep 57Tongue Control

James 3:1-121 Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. We must learn to control our tongue! “if a man is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man able to keep his whole body check.” Power of Tongue 1. Tongue has power to change the course of one’s life.2. Tongue has power to destroy our lives. a. 6 “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” 3. Tongue reveals our true self 9 “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness” a. Matthew 15:10-11 And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” Control of Tongue 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.Matthew 12:34 “for out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks…” Change of Tongue 1. Heart Transformation a. II Corinthians 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone and the new has come.” 2. Holy Spirit's Empowerment a. Psalms 141:3 “Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord, keep watch over the door of my lips.” 3. Habit Development "THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!" a. James 1:19 says “quick to listen and slow to speak.” a. Ephesians 5:4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. i. Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. ii. 1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."1 Corinthians 15:57-5857 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. Ep 54Fearing God

Deuteronomy 6:1-2“These are the commands, the decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.” Isaiah 43:1-3 But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God,the Holy One of Israel, your Savior In order to overcome fear by faith we must embrace, God’s1. Supremacy2. Sovereignty3. The fear of God is an attitude of respect, a response of awe and wonder. Ep 53Fear Not Part II

Isaiah 43:1-3 But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God,the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; How does fear work against the believers? 1. Fear dominates in faithlessness 2. Fear enters through forgetfulness 3. Fear permeates through distraction “He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Cor 15:57) The only way to overcome fear is FAITH: Believe in...1. God's Redemption "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2. God's Protection "When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." 3. God's Presence "I will be with you for I am the Lord your God,the Holy One of Israel, your Savior" As we seek God's presence, we must embrace... 1. God’s SupremacyIsaiah 42:8 "I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.”Colossians 1:15-20.15 The Son is the image of the invisible God,the first born over all creation.16 For in him all things were created:things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;all things have been created through him and for him.17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.18 And he is the head of the body, the church;he is the beginning and the first born from among the dead,so that in everything he might have the supremacy.19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven,by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.“Man’s chief end is to glorify God” 1 Corinthians 10:31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 2. God's SovereigntyRomans 8:28 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose. Psalm 139You have searched me,Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you,Lord, know it completely. Isaiah 46:9-10 Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ 3. God's Supervision Psalms 31:3For You are my rock and my fortress; For Your name's sake You will lead me and guide me.Psalm 48:14For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Ep 52Fear Not

Isaiah 43:1 But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. In Christ, we are called to live by faith not by fear! How do we overcome fear? 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.Understanding FearDefinitions Fear (Hebrew): "Falling back" "a cowering before a superior force" Worry (Anglo-Saxon): “choke or strangle.”Anxiety (Latin): "to suffocate, press tightly, or to strangle." Distress (English): "to cause sorrow or misery, suffering, to exhaust of weaken with strain"Panic (Greek): "To be filled with terror" Timidity (English): "Being easily frightened or having no self-confidence" Results of FearPowerlessness, confusion, faithlessness Origin of Fear SIN: Ultimately fear is caused by the separation from God. “I am afraid” (Gen. 3:10). Overcoming Fear By FAITH Hebrews 11:6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. 2 Corinthians 5:7For we live by faith, not by sight.1. By faith, we must believe in the promise of salvationLuke 2:10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. 2. By faith, we must submit to the Holy Spirit through the word Romans 10:17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 3. By faith, we must repent of our sins1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 4. By faith, we must have the fear of the Lord Isaiah 8:12-14 "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. 13 The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread, 14 and he will be a sanctuary

Ep 51The Living Hope

1 Peter 1:3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, I Peter 1:1313 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. I Peter 3:1515 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect In Christ, we have the living hope! 1 Peter 1:3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead Foundation of the Living HopeI Peter 1:1313 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. II Thess 2:1616 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. What kind of hope do we have in Christ? 1. Hope of Salvation Romans 10:13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Ephesians 2:8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith Ephesians 1:7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 2. Hope of Transformation 2 Corinthians 3:18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Romans 12:2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Philippians 3:21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. 3. Hope of Restoration Life Restoration 1 Peter 5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eter nal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. Kingdom Restoration Acts 3:21He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.

Ep 50Hope In The Lord!

Isaiah 40:3-9, 3 A voice of one calling:“In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord[a]; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.[b]4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” 6 A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.7 The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass.8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”9 You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem,[c] lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” 21 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded?22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.23 He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.24 No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.25 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.27 Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”?28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Gospel Ministry is our calling3 A voice of one calling:“In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord[a]; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”?Hope in the Lord 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. Remember His PERSONHOOD22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.2. Depend on His POWER! 25 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.3. Trust in His PLAN!13 Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counselor?14 Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding?15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust. 23 He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.24 No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away

Ep 49As We Serve Him

Luke 4:18-19The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good newsto the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Gospel Ministry is our calling and as we serve...1. Remember our identityI Peter 2:9-10“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession (a people belong to God), that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”2. Recognize our time 2 Tim 3:1-5But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 3. Remain in God's promise Hebrews 10:36 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 4. Refocus on our calling Luke 4:18-19The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Conclusion Hebrews 6:10-1210 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized.12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Ep 48Restoration of Freedom III

Galatians 5:13-1513 For you were called to freedom, brothers.Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through loveserve one another.14 Forthe whole law is fulfilled in one word:“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Purpose of Freedom: Love 13 For you were called to freedom, brothers.Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through loveserve one another.14 Forthe whole law is fulfilled in one word:“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” We are set free so that we can love free. 1. Personal Relationship2. Kingdom Partnership How do we respond to our freedom in Christ? (Three Responses) PROTECT 13 For you were called to freedom, brothers.Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. How can we protect our freedom? 1. Repent a. Jeremiah 15:19 “If you repent, I will restore you.”b. Luke 3:8 “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.” c. I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness2. Resist James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” 3. Remain John 15:4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. PROCEED 1. James 1:25 “But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-he will be blessed in what he does.” Ephesians 3:12 “In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” PROCLAIM Luke 4:18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Ep 45Gospel Power

Romans 1:16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." 2 Tim 1:12That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. How do we, as Christians, address the current crisis? 1. Racism is a sin against God2. Lawlessness is a sin against God 3. The root of these problems is SIN Gospel is the only solution for the sin problem. Christian Gospel is that it works, that it is not a mere theory, but that it is something which really does what it claims to do, that it enables a man to live in a real sense in this world.-Martyn Lloyd-JonesPaul's life motto: I am not ashamed of the gospel Gospel Principles1. Gospel is the power of God Gospel changes a. Destiny b. Identity c. Duty 2. Gospel is relevant!“The gospel is a complete view of life which covers all conceivable eventualities.”3.Gospel is realistic! Christian Gospel enables a man to live in a real sense in this world. 4. Gospel is not automatic. As it required the sacrifice of God’s son, it requires our faith to respond.

Ep 41Asking God

Habakkuk 1:12-17 12 LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, we will never die. You, LORD, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish.13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?14 You have made people like the fish in the sea, like the sea creatures that have no ruler.15 The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net,he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad.16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.17 Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy?Habakkuk - Questioning God about his difficult circumstances.1. How long should I wait? (v.2)2. Why are these things happening in life? (v.3)God's Answer (v. 5-6)For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. 6 I am raising up the Babyloniansthat ruthless and impetuous people, God’s answer to Habakkuk raised even more questions:1. Why Babylonians?2. Why does he tolerate such things? We CAN ask questions to God. How can we ask God in the right way? The right way of asking God: 1. Stop to thinkJames 1:19 “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” 2. Remember the biblical principles. Habakkuk's 5 propositions about who God is1) God is eternal "LORD, are you not from everlasting?" 2) God is self-existent "LORD" = "Yahweh" " you will never die." 3) God is holy " My God, my Holy One"4) God is sovereign (almighty) " You, LORD, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish." 5) God is faithful "My Rock" 3. Commit the problems to God in faith if still in doubt (v. 13-17) 13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves? The attitude of Jesus:“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? 3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. 4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted. The LORD’s Answer5 “Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. 6 I am raising up the Babylonians that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own. 7 They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor. 8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like an eagle swooping to devour; 9 they all come intent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand. 10 They mock kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; by building earthen ramps they capture them. 11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on-guilty people, whose own strength is their god.” BackgroundHabakkuk - Questioning God about his difficult circumstances.1.
