In this edition of the Dedeaux Download podcast, part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith break down USC baseball's big series win against No. 17 Oregon despite Friday starter Tyler Stromsborg initially being pushed back to Sunday and then ultimately being scratched altogether.
But before the guys discuss the Trojans to rallying for a big Pac-12 series win against Oregon to breathe a little life back into their postseason hopes, a special guest joins the podcast. USC hitting coach and recruiting coordinator Travis Jewett comes on the Dedeaux Download to talk about how the Trojans were able to bounce back after struggling at Washington last weekend and losing a pair of midweek games for their longest losing streak of the season (five games).
Jewett also talks a lot about the Trojans' hitting philosophy of getting back to the midline and what type of adjustments they do and do not make in two-strike and/or two-out situations. He breaks down how USC was able to handle a stretch where it got a lot of hits but struggled to come through with the clutch hits with runners on base.
After a hearty conversation with Jewett, Shotgun and Jack break down all the action from the last two weeks of play, including looking at where the 27-20-1 Trojans stand in the Pac-12, sitting in third place with two regular-season weekends remaining. They also look at USC's national RPI and what the Trojans chances of making the NCAA tournament are looking like.
Shotgun and Jack also discuss the upcoming week with the Trojans taking on Cal State Bakersfield at Dedeaux Field on Tuesday before welcoming in Arizona State for a crucial weekend series for both teams.
