Show Notes

Human beings have been telling stories since our existence. The ability to tell an effective story is essential in conveying messages, developing subordinates, and connecting with everyone you come in touch with. Yet so many leaders simply suck at telling stories and have no idea why storytelling matters.

Tom Henschel is an expert in workplace communications and executive development. Tom is president of the executive development firm Essential Communications and a founding coach at the consulting firm Corporate Coaching International. He is a senior coach with Aria Consulting, Arden Coaching and Executive Coaching Connections. As a volunteer, Tom coaches emerging female leaders for The Coaching Fellowship, serves on the Advisory Board of The Actors Fund and on the Board of Directors of Children’s Community School.

Why Storytelling Matters Topics

During this interview, Tom and I discuss the following topics:

  • How he went from actor to executive coach
  • Why perception is so important to leaders
  • Why story telling is such a powerful tool
  • How leaders can improve their story telling skills
  • Should leaders have "back pocket" stories.
