Psalm 18:19–24 (ESV) “He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me. Exodus 14:10–14 (ESV) - “When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, ‘Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: “Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians”? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.’ And Moses said to the people, ‘Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. Exodus 12:40–42 (ESV) - “The time that the people of Israel lived in Egypt was 430 years. At the end of 430 years, on that very day, all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt. It was a night of watching by the Lord, to bring them out from the land of Egypt; so this same night is a night of watching kept to the Lord by all the people of Israel throughout their generations.” In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall looks at Exodus 12 and the moment when God fulfilled His promise to bring Israel out of Egypt. Exodus 9:5 - “The Lord has already set a time for the plague to begin. He has declared that he will strike the land tomorrow.” Exodus 9:16 - “But I have spared you for this purpose—to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth. Yet you still lord it over my people and refuse to let them go.” Exodus 10:4 - “If you refuse, watch out! Tomorrow I will bring a swarm of locusts on your country.” In this Old Testament devotional, we see a consistent pattern in God’s dealings with Pharaoh. God confronts clearly, but He is never in a hurry. Each warning comes with time attached to it. Tomorrow. Space to think. Space to decide. This reveals the heart of God. He does not force obedience or rush decisions. Even in judgment, He allows time for reflection so change can be sincere. God values willing obedience, not pressured compliance. The same principle applies to leadership, parenting, and relationships. At times, strong truths must be spoken, but lasting change happens when people are given room to consider and choose wisely. Exodus 7:21–23 – “The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt. But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said. In today’s devotional, we are reminded to be intentional about who influences our lives. In a world where many people seek attention, followers, and influence simply for profit, Scripture calls us to a higher standard. Not everyone who is famous is worthy of being followed. Popularity, talent, wealth, or success do not equal character. Proverbs warns us clearly: do not imitate the ways of the wicked, and do not allow their lifestyle to shape your choices. God calls us to turn away from ungodly influences and keep moving forward toward the life He has prepared for us.
