Show Notes

Luke 4:33–35 (ESV) - “And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, ‘Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be silent and come out of him!’ And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reminds us that the world includes both a natural realm and a spiritual realm. The Bible shows that demons are real, but Jesus never became obsessed with them. Instead, He stayed focused on ministry, teaching the Word of God and helping people.

In Luke 4, Jesus was simply teaching in the synagogue when a demon cried out. His ministry itself interfered with demonic activity. Jesus did not hold a conversation with the demon. He simply rebuked it and commanded it to come out.

Pastor Sumrall explains that much of what people call spiritual warfare is simply faithful ministry. When believers preach the Word, teach Scripture, pray for the sick, and help others, they are already interfering with the work of the enemy.

This Daily Devotion encourages believers to keep their focus on Jesus and the work of ministry. Faithfully teaching the Word of God and caring for people is often the very thing that disrupts the enemy’s plans.
