Rachel, Nevada, 1988. The nearest town to the most secretive military installation on Earth, and comedian Sunil Patel is here to ask the question PastMaster was arguably built for: does the AI Game Master, with access to the entire internet's worth of training data, actually believe in aliens?
The logic is sound. If any entity has parsed every conspiracy theory, government report, eyewitness account, and 4chan thread about extraterrestrial life, it's a large language model trained on the internet. It's read about Bob Lazar's nine flying discs, it knows about Element 115, and it's absorbed every theory about underwater alien bases in the Atlantic. The question is whether it's formed a convincing theory of its own, or whether it'll just hedge. Sunil's mission: get inside Area 51 and see what the Game Master reveals.
Area 51 — officially the Nevada Test and Training Range — has been the subject of UFO conspiracy theories since the 1950s. The US government didn't acknowledge its existence until 2013. Tan's been reading about all of it, from debunked whistleblowers to 4chan screenshots of supposed government insiders. Now the Game Master has to build a world around one of the most debated conspiracy theories in modern history. Whether it plays it straight or goes full tinfoil hat depends on what it's decided after absorbing every alien theory ever written.
