3 Truths That Can Change Our Community

One thing we as a church can do is to help people understand that often their preconceived notions about church, the Bible, and even Jesus, are often misguided. Because most people who are not Christ-followers believe that church is boring, that the Bible is just a list of old-fashioned rules, and that Jesus was just a really nice guy. Here are 3 truths that can change our community for Christ.

Come To Me

Joy vs Bitterness

Faith vs Worry

The propensity to worry is rampant in our society. It exploits a lack of trust in God and becomes an ugly, debilitating monster. But the choice of faith leads to new life, and vitality in following Christ as he lays out your path one step at a time.

Others vs. Self

Our natural desire is to seek what benefits us. And there’s nothing wrong with bettering yourself, until you better yourself at the cost of others. We must learn to put others above ourselves. To choose their benefit over our own…just like Jesus.

When Things Don’t Go As Planned

Your business. Your marriage. Your kids. Your week. When things don’t go as planned, then what? “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” Scottish poet Robert Burns. Reflects a Biblical truth

When the Unexpected Occurs

Jesus is asleep in the boat and the disciples get caught in a storm. How many times do unexpected things happen and it feels like Jesus is asleep in the boat and we are about to drown? Every time. But what He says is exactly the thing we need to remember when the unexpected occurs.

When Pigs Fly

Pigs drown and people ask Jesus to leave. A move of God is scary because I’m not in control. But I never really was. I need to embrace what God is doing. One thing He is doing is that He’s calling out for compromise (pigs were unclean).

God is Father

We refer to God as our Heavenly Father but rarely talk in-depth about what that means. It means that He is strong (Pr 18:10), that He is Kind (Rom 2:4), and that He doesn’t prevent pain but wants us to learn from it. (Romans 8:28)

God is Just

God is just and His justice must be satisfied. Even while forgiving, His justice comes into play (Rom 5:8). We want things in life to be fair and just. We get angry when it’s not. That’s the image of God coming out in us.

God is Jealous

God is a Jealous God. But what is He jealous for? For me!! He loves me and wants me to be fully committed to following Him. He is jealous for my time every day. He is jealous for my heart to be undivided. So I have to guard my relationship with Him and get rid of the things that keep me from Him and from going deeper with Him.
