In this lesson of Sūrah At-Tawbah, verses 41-48, Shaykh Dr. Aḥsan Ḥanīf discussed the command for believers to strive in Allāh’s cause with their wealth and lives, regardless of difficulty, as true faith is demonstrated through action. The passage exposes the hypocrisy of those who sought to avoid sacrifice, making false excuses and swearing deceitful oaths. Allāh عَزَّوَجَلَّ rebukes them, making clear that those who truly believe do not hesitate when called to serve. Their insincerity is further highlighted by their lack of preparation, showing that they never intended to go forth. The verses also reveal that had they joined the believers, they would have only caused confusion and spread discord. Allāh عَزَّوَجَلَّ, in His wisdom, kept them back to protect the unity and strength of the sincere.
