Overeducated and Underemployed features an interview with Shonda Clinton (the “sativa diva”), vocalist and tour manager for Parliament-Funkadelic and George Clinton’s granddaughter promoting the first annual P-Funk Festival (P-Funk Fest) on April 11 at Phipps Farm in Tallahassee, Florida (11am–11pm). Shonda discusses growing up around P-Funk, starting with the band on the 1994 Lollapalooza tour, moving from merch to performing (including a Paris show at the Hot Brass Club) and later tour managing, plus how G-Funk and hip-hop (Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Rakim) elevated George’s legacy; she recounts a Las Vegas “Paid in Full” event where Dr. Dre credited George Clinton as his key influence. They preview P-Funk Fest as an all-ages, 12-hour, all-day P-Funk family-reunion-style festival with vendors, food, crafts, art/archive elements, possible silent disco, a Godby High School marching band ribbon cutting, and many acts including 4/20 Funk Mob, Kendra Foster, Secret Army, Ligedelic, Semi Funk, Norwood Fisher sit-ins, 3G, Peso Paid, 13, Soular System, Pharaohs of Funk, Star Child Jr., and God’s Weapon, with George Clinton planning to attend all day. Feddun also plugs a P-Funk Week show with Danny Bedrosian at the Blue Tavern (solo set of 1975 Parliament-Funkadelic songs and his book Make My Funk the P-Funk).
