Today's guest is Gregory Boyle, the founder of Homeboy Industries - the largest gang rehabilitation program on the planet.
In the wake of the 1992 LA riots, he started a small project: called Jobs for a Future - a way of helping rival gang members find employment. The success of this project led to Homeboy Industries is now the largest and most successful gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world.
He famously looks to serve those who ‘want help’ not those who ‘need help’ - supporting 15,000 men and women a year - through initiatives like tattoo removal, therapy, work readiness, and legal assistance, and job training in one of their many businesses.
He’s also written two books - including the New York times best seller Tattoos on the Heart.
We talked about radical kinship, how to maintain compassion over judgement, what he thinks causes police brutality and why you shouldn't focus on what impact you’re going to have on the world.
