16 individuals were apprehended in Osceola County, Florida, during a major undercover operation targeting child predators. These individuals were accused of engaging in inappropriate online conversations with minors, sending explicit messages, and planning to meet up with children as young as 13 or 14. The operation was a collaborative effort involving local sheriffs offices, police departments from Kissimmee and St. Cloud, and federal partners. The arrests followed the signing of new laws by Governor Ron DeSantis, such as Missys Law, aimed at protecting children from predators. Some of the arrested individuals held jobs that put them in contact with children daily, including a school bus driver, a nurse assistant, and a security guard at a charter school. The Attorney General warned parents to be vigilant and not leave children alone with strangers. Fifteen of the suspects were found to have traveled with the intention of exploiting minors. The statewide prosecution office emphasized that attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes would result in arrest, charges, and severe penalties. Sheriff Blackmon stated that these arrests were just the beginning, and law enforcement would continue to prioritize child exploitation cases. They have expanded their investigations unit and formed a massive Central Florida task force involving 67 agencies across 17 counties and hundreds of prosecutors and investigators.
