Show Notes
Volusia County Deputy Jose Rivera survived a shooting on March 2nd, thanks to his body-worn camera deflecting a bullet meant for his chest. Rivera, a U.S. Army veteran and father of three, was shot in the thigh and shoulder during a confrontation with suspect Luis Diaz Polanco. The incident occurred after Rivera and his rookie partner, Deputy Jacob Gomez-Lopez, responded to reports of a man acting erratically. Polanco fired multiple rounds, exchanging fire with the deputies before barricading himself inside the home. Rivera, despite surgery, is in stable condition and eager to return to work. Local leaders and agencies have shown support for Riveras recovery.
