This week's episode is slightly different. Over the Christmas period, Ed and I will be taking it in turns to pick our favourite snippets from the episodes recorded this year. Today it was my turn, and it struck me that a consistent theme ran throughout the majority of the interviews, namely: Investing in disruptive Innovation.During this episode, we start by hearing from Jonah Lupton on his unique approach to investing in disruptive, innovative businesses. Then, we hear from other previous guests discussing favourite Themes & Megatrends including, 'The next generation economy' and the 'Genomics revolution'.Finally, we finish by getting under the hood of two guests' portfolio favourites. Here we get some fascinating insight into two tech companies that our interviewees are keeping a close eye on!Thanks to Cofruition for consulting on and producing the podcast. S1 Ep 94Edwin Dorsey - Shorting Bad Businesses, Investigating Care.com & Dorsey the ‘Anti-Zuckerberg’

Edwin Dorsey is Founder of The Bear Cave, a short-focused newsletter that investigates and uncovers ‘Bad businesses’. Edwin’s passion for investing began in third grade, and when his grandmother funded an E-Trade account for him whilst still in elementary school, he was hooked. Whilst at Stanford, Dorsey shone a spotlight on the nefarious Care.com, having instigated an international investigation, that culminated with a Wallstreet Journal front page, a C-suite overhaul, and IAC’s ultimate acquisition of Care.com in early 2020. Edwin relives that story and many more like it, including the equally awe-inspiring tale of Root Insurance’s unsavoury practices, and subsequent demise. We discuss how to identify these bad businesses and what red flags investors can look out for, before concluding by talking Twitter, and Edwin’s super-fandom of both Dorsey and the company’s monetisation potential. S1 Ep 83Kevin T. Carter - "The Biggest Opportunity in the History of Capitalism", Evergrande & Picking the Next Alibaba

Kevin T. Carter is the Founder & Chief Investment Officer of EMQQ. While Kevin considers himself an active ‘value’ investor - a Buffett/Munger disciple -, a 20+-year partnership with Princeton economist and indexing legend Dr. Burton Malkiel, has seen his career take an unexpected turn. Having co-founded Active Index Advisors in 2002, a pioneer in so-called ‘direct-indexing’, Kevin’s ambition had been to improve retail access to financial markets – a clear motivation in his founding of fractional share/dollar investment platform eInvesting, a few years earlier. However, it was a subsequent pivot toward China and Emerging Markets that changed everything. Kevin launched EMQQ in 2014, an Emerging Markets Internet & Ecommerce ETF (available to UK investors). Kevin and I discuss what McKinsey labels the “biggest opportunity in the history of capitalism” by analysing the regions’ digital consumer revolution, before studying Evergrande’s impact, and how to identify the next Tencent or Alibaba. S1 Ep 81Jeff Ross - Live Q&A: Bitcoin's 'Real' Value, El Salvador & Hedging Dollar Debasement

This week’s episode is slightly different. You’ll hear a live Q&A held on Twitter Spaces last Friday with Founder of Vailshire Capital Management and friend of the show, Jeff Ross.Jeff occupies the rare space of being both a radiologist and a founder of a successful hedge fund, and while the latter provides an innovative, all-weather, full-cycle portfolio management system – which has returned 95% in the past year – another topic currently hold Ross’s attention: Bitcoin.I quiz Jeff on Bitcoin’s credentials as a Store of Value, comparing the cryptocurrency to physical SoV’s like Silver and Gold. It’s on open floor debate too, with a handful of listeners asking for Jeff’s opinion on anything from the merits of the Stock-to-Flow model, the ugly price action surrounding El Salvador’s turbulent BTC debut, and Jeff’s long-term price target.
