In May 1981, 24-year-old René Bernard Laflamme vanished from Montreal.
He had an apartment waiting in B.C. He was expected home in Ottawa. His silence was immediate proof that something went desperately wrong.
The family gave police a prime suspect: a controlling associate who fought with René just before he disappeared.
But a tug-of-war between police forces wasted the critical first 72 hours, allowing the strongest lead to vanish.
This week, we expose the catastrophic bureaucratic friction that may have cost René Laflamme's case any hope of a resolution.
