Toronto, October 1950. Fog coils around the towers of University College, and whispers of cults and curses haunt the lecture halls.

When a graduate student is found dead in a circle of chalk symbols, Detectives Mick McCathie and Mack MacNeely are drawn into a world of midnight gatherings, cryptic inscriptions, and an Egyptian sarcophagus said to conceal a terrible secret.

At the center of it all stands Professor Elias Vane — eloquent, enigmatic, and unsettlingly calm. Is he a scholar of ancient mysteries… or the architect of something far darker?

As bodies fall and the rituals grow bolder, Mick and Mack must navigate a maze of frightened students, rival academics, and symbols that may be more than superstition. The trail leads beneath University College itself, into a crypt where the past refuses to sleep — and where the line between reason and madness blurs in candlelight.

In a city of fog and fear, the detectives face a final question: have they stopped a killer, or merely delayed an awakening?
