The murder of Betty Shanks has haunted Brisbane for decades. After 72 years, it still remains unsolvedWelcome to Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast, the podcast where we delve into some of the world’s most perplexing mysteries, unsolved crimes, and haunting cold cases. The murder of Betty Shanks has cast a haunting shadow over Brisbane for more than seven decades. Even after 72 years, her tragic death remains an unsolved mystery, chilling those who hear her story. It was a mild spring evening on September 19, 1952, when two piercing screams shattered the quiet of Brisbane’s inner-north suburb of Grange. An off-duty police officer, Constable Alex Stewart, along with other residents, heard the cries but dismissed them as the antics of teenagers. No one ventured into the dark to investigate.By sunrise, those screams would become the prelude to one of Queensland's most infamous unsolved murders. While on his morning rounds, Constable Stewart stumbled upon a horrifying scene just metres from his own home: the battered body of 22-year-old Betty Shanks lay in a neighbour’s garden, her bloodstained tram ticket still clutched in her hand.If you enjoyed this episode of Ontario Cold Cases, Canada’s True Crime Podcast, make sure to subscribe and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts. S2 Ep 88A Whisper in the Dark

A Whisper in the DarkOntario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast fictional episode of Whodunnit Wednesday’s.Go back to the Golden Era of detective fiction and enjoy stories in the tradition of the greats of writing. From Agatha Christie to Raymond Chandler to John Creasey, these are short stories I hope you enjoy. The night was still and oppressive, with a heavy mist curling around the ancient stone walls of Grange Court, a crumbling Elizabethan mansion nestled deep in the Suffolk countryside. Once a symbol of grandeur, the house now stood as a weary testament to time's inevitable march, its former glory marred by neglect. The house's current occupants were the Forsyte family, who had inherited the estate along with its accompanying burdens. Colonel Richard Forsyte, recently retired from the army, had returned to Grange Court with his much younger second wife, Lydia. Their arrival had breathed a semblance of life back into the old house, though it was a fragile illusion, like the delicate ivy clinging to the mansion's exterior. But as the night wore on, the storm grew fiercer, the wind howling like a wounded animal. And in the depths of Grange Court, beneath the layers of time and memory, something stirred.Someone had been pressing the Colonel to reveal a secret—one that, Detective Inspector Robert Dalgliesh suspected, was at the heart of his murder. But what truth was so dangerous that it had cost Richard Forsyte his life?If you enjoy these videos and podcasts, please consider subscribing to Ontario Cold Cases – Canada’s True Crime Podcast, available wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts.Ontario Cold Cases - Wordpresshttps://nicollinvestigations.wordpress.com/For more videos subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/@OntarioColdCases?sub_confirmation=1@PlayMorePods#OntarioColdCases, #NicollInvestigations , #ColdCasePodcast , #PodcastMystery , #FictionalPodcast, #PodcastsOnAmazonMusic, #Murder , #Homicide , #RaymondChandler, , #AgathaChristie, #DetectiveFiction, #JohnCreasey, #DorothyLSayers, #PDJames, #Dalgliesh, Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 86The Delphi Murders: A Chilling Symbol of Modern Evil

bonus

The Delphi Murders: A Chilling Symbol of Modern EvilAfter nearly four days of deliberation, an Indiana jury reached a conclusion many had suspected for years: Richard Allen is among the most heinous criminals of our time. On that fateful February day in 2017, Abby Williams,13, and Libby German, 14, went for what should have been a peaceful hike along Delphi’s Historic Trails. When they failed to meet their families at the designated pick-up point, panic set in. The next day, their bodies were discovered in a wooded area near the trails. From the start, investigators were certain it was a homicide. The hunt for the killer consumed the town, casting a shadow of fear as law enforcement and the public alike searched for answers. Remarkably, Libby managed to capture photos and audio of her murderer—dubbed “Bridge Guy”—just before the girls were attacked. Despite this invaluable evidence, it would take five long years for an arrest to be made. For Delphi, the nightmare is finally over.If you enjoyed this episode of Ontario Cold Cases, Canada’s True Crime Podcast, make sure to subscribe and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.Ontario Cold Cases - Wordpresshttps://nicollinvestigations.wordpress.com/For more videos subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/@OntarioColdCases?sub_confirmation=1@PlayMorePods#OntarioColdCases, #NicollInvestigations , #canadiancrime , #ColdCasePodcast , #ontariocrime, #OntarioMysteries , #PodcastMystery , #truecrimepodcast , #unsolvedmysteries, #ontario, #TrueCrimeCanada, #TrueCrimeOntario, #CanadianMysteries, #canada, #truecrime, #PodcastsOnAmazonMusic, #Murder, #Homicide, #Delphi, #Indiana, #AbigailWilliams, #AbbyWilliams, #LibertyGerman, #LibbyGerman, #RichardAllen, #DephiMurders, Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 84The Case of the Missing Manuscript

The Case of the Missing ManuscriptHello, I’m Jay Nicoll of Nicoll Investigations and this is an Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast fictional episode of Whodunnit Wednesday’s.Go back to the Golden Era of detective fiction and enjoy stories in the tradition of the greats of writing. From Agatha Christie to Raymond Chandler to John Creasey, these are short stories I hope you enjoy. It was the most unlikely place for a mystery to begin—at a dinner party in the quiet London residence of Mr. James Laverly, a modest writer of modest successes. Laverly had gathered a small group of friends, each a colorful character in their own right. There was his publisher, the gregarious Mr. Frederick Hayes; the sharp-witted critic Miss Lydia Farnsworth; the suspiciously quiet secretary Miss Emma Baynes; and the overly genial amateur detective, Roger Quinton, whose insatiable love for puzzles would soon become crucial. It was over the second course of pheasant when Laverly announced, quite suddenly, that he had just completed the finest work of his career: a mystery novel of unprecedented complexity and ingenuity. However, it was only when he rose to retrieve the manuscript from his study that the evening took a darker turn. Moments later, Laverly returned, his face ashen.“My manuscript,” he said, voice trembling. “It’s gone!”There was a hush around the table. For a few moments, the guests regarded one another in stunned silence. Then, as though snapping back to life, Roger Quinton leaned forward with a glint of interest in his eyes.“A locked room,” he murmured to himself. “A vanished manuscript. We must get to the bottom of this.”If you enjoy these videos and podcasts, please consider subscribing to Ontario Cold Cases – Canada’s True Crime Podcast, available wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts.Ontario Cold Cases - Wordpresshttps://nicollinvestigations.wordpress.com/For more videos subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/@OntarioColdCases?sub_confirmation=1@PlayMorePods#OntarioColdCases, #NicollInvestigations , #ColdCasePodcast , #PodcastMystery , #FictionalPodcast, #PodcastsOnAmazonMusic, #Murder , #Homicide , #RaymondChandler, , #AgathaChristie, #DetectiveFiction, #JohnCreasey, #DorothyLSayers Hosted on Acast. S2 Ep 79Nightmare in Newcastle

Nightmare in Newcastle: The Savage 1963 Halloween Night Murder of Katherine Lillian ArmstrongWelcome to Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast: World Cold Case Thursday’s. The brutal 1963 Halloween night murder of Katherine Armstrong was especially disturbing given that no suspect or motive for the crime was ever discoveredKatherine was last seen around 6:30 p.m. on Halloween when some local children knocked on her door. The next morning her cousin came to visit and sensing something was wrong, contacted police. A police sergeant soon arrived and forced entry into the house. Inside, they discovered a horrific scene. Katherine’s lifeless body lay at the bottom of the staircase. She had been stabbed 28 times around her face and head, and a nylon stocking was tightly wrapped around her neck. There was also speculation that Katherine’s murder might have been linked to another unsolved crime in the Newcastle area. In 1962, just a year before Katherine’s death, another elderly woman was murdered in a similarly brutal fashion. The similarities in the cases led some to believe that a serial killer might have been at work, preying on vulnerable older women. If you enjoyed this episode of Ontario Cold Cases, Canada’s True Crime Podcast, make sure to subscribe and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts. S2 Ep 78Murder at Ashton Manor

Murder at Ashton Manor Hello, I’m Jay Nicoll of Nicoll Investigations and this is an Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast fictional episode of Whodunnit Wednesday’s.Go back to the Golden Era of detective fiction and enjoy stories in the tradition of the greats of writing. From Agatha Christie to Raymond Chandler to John Creasey, these are short stories I hope you enjoy.PrologueIt was a wild Halloween night when Lord Peter Wimsey found himself stranded at Ashton Manor, a sprawling estate that crouched atop a windswept hill, its turrets looming against a sky that flashed with lightning. He hadn’t intended to visit the aging mansion, but the storm had left him no choice. The bridge over the river had collapsed, making it impossible to proceed. The manor was an imposing, Gothic affair, with winding corridors and rooms that seemed to swallow sound. Inside, the air was damp with the scent of old books and cold stone, and the shadows flickered unsettlingly as the wind moaned outside. It was close to midnight when the first scream shattered the uneasy calm. The night wore on, the storm continuing its ferocious assault on the manor, and Lord Peter moved through the house, piecing together the fragments of conversations, the hints of tension, the barely concealed secrets. The Case of the Crimson EnvelopeOntario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast fictional episode of Whodunnit Wednesday’s.Go back to the Golden Era of detective fiction and enjoy stories in the tradition of the greats of writing. From Agatha Christie to Raymond Chandler to John Creasey, these are short stories I hope you enjoy. It was one of those thick San Francisco nights where the fog hung in the air like a cheap suit that didn't quite fit. The kind of night that made a man want to slip into a bar and forget the world with a bottle of bourbon. But there wasn't time for that. Not tonight. I I was in my office on the third floor of the Sequoia Building, nursing the last of a cigarette when she walked in. Tall, with legs that wouldn't quit, and a face that looked like it had been chiseled out of trouble. Her hair was the color of midnight, and she wore a crimson dress that clung to her like a bad habit. In her gloved hand was an envelope—bright red, like it had been dipped in blood. And as I began to talk, I knew one thing for certain: I might not come out of this unscathed, but I’d go down fighting, with the truth in my hand and the city at my back. Because in San Francisco, that’s all you’ve got—the truth, and the will to see it through, no matter how dark the night gets.Thank you for listening , and if you enjoy these videos and podcasts, please consider subscribing to Ontario Cold Cases – Canada’s True Crime Podcast, available wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts and don’t forget to tune in daily for new episodes.Ontario Cold Cases - Wordpresshttps://nicollinvestigations.wordpress.com/For more videos subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/@OntarioColdCases?sub_confirmation=1@PlayMorePods#OntarioColdCases, #NicollInvestigations , #ColdCasePodcast , #PodcastMystery , #FictionalPodcast, #PodcastsOnAmazonMusic, #Murder , #Homicide , #RaymondChandler, , #AgathaChristie, #DetectiveFiction, #JohnCreasey, #DashiellHammett , #SamSpade, #HumphreyBogart, #USA, #SanFrancisco Hosted on Acast. We’ve had a report of a body found in Mayfair. It’s a strange one, sir.”Gideon’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean by ‘strange,’ Inspector?”“The body was found in a locked room. No sign of forced entry. And the victim was frozen in an expression of abject terror. His skin had a strange, silvery hue, as if drained of blood and life.”Ontario Cold Cases - Wordpresshttps://nicollinvestigations.wordpress.com/For more videos subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/@OntarioColdCases?sub_confirmation=1@PlayMorePodsPlease consider subscribing to Ontario Cold Cases – Canada’s True Crime Podcast, available wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts and don’t forget to tune in daily for new episodes.#OntarioColdCases, #NicollInvestigations , #ColdCasePodcast , #PodcastMystery , #FictionalPodcast, #PodcastsOnAmazonMusic, #Murder , #Homicide , #RaymondChandler, , #AgathaChristie, #DetectiveFiction, #JohnCreasey, #GeorgeGideon, #Gideon, #GideonOfScotlandYard, #London, #England, #UK, #Mayfair, #Kensington, #StJames, #ScotlandYard, Hosted on Acast.
