In honor of National Minority Health Month, Dr. Shakira Grant, Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, sat down with Oncology Data Advisor to talk about her research surrounding racial disparities faced by patients with multiple myeloma. Dr. Grant outlines the existing barriers to equitable health care and shares valuable advice on steps that oncology clinicians can take to make health care more accessible for their patients of minority populations.

At the recent American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Genitourinary (GU) Cancers Symposium, Dr. Lisa Gudenkauf, an Applied Research Scientist at Moffitt Cancer Center, presented her team's research regarding the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy—Radionuclide Therapy (FACT-RNT), a novel patient-reported outcomes (PRO) measure for patients with prostate cancer. In this follow-up interview, Dr. Gudenkauf shares more about how the measure was developed, its importance for capturing the patient experience, and its future implementation into both clinical practice and trials.

Recently, Ravi Parikh, MD, MPP, an Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy and Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine, released a research letter titled, “Exposure to US Cancer Drugs With Lack of Confirmed Benefit After US Food and Drug Administration Accelerated Approval.” In this interview with OncData, he further discusses his research and gives a thought-provoking analysis of what these findings could mean for the future of the accelerated approval program, as well as how the multidisciplinary team could better advocate and let their voices be heard for more quality clinical trials.
