After graduating with degrees in geospatial science and Spanish he went on to record well over 1500 hours as a combat proven fighter pilot with multiple deployments to the Middle East in both the F-15 and F-22. He finished his active duty career serving as the F-22 Demonstration Team Commander and Pilot and flew in multiple air shows both here in the US and abroad including a flyover at the 2022 Superbowl.We got to pick his brain about what made him want to join the Air Force, what pilot training was like, and whether or not you can listen to music in a fighter jet. At one point touted as the next superstar with the last name Sanders to hit the league and a guaranteed first round pick (many mock drafts had him top 5 and some even as the first overall pick), he ended up falling all the way down to the 5th round in the NFL draft to be taken 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. What's good family!?!? Welcome to our internal episode for the month of MARCH. We kick off this episode by breaking down the shocking news of Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic being copied into an official group chat which was supposed to be highly classified. This group chat was created on the messaging app Signal and included officials such as Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and National Security Advisor Michel Waltz. Included in the messages were plans for an operation against the Houthis in Yemen. We then pivot into talking combat sports! First we break down the sentencing of former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Cain pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 5 years (with time served of ~1300 days) after firing into a moving vehicle in which a man who was alleged to have SA'd Cain's (then) 4 year old son at a daycare. We also talk about our recent road trip to San Bernardino to watch our good friend and former pod guest Jessie Magdaleno fight. Jessie ended up dominating and winning by TKO and it was amazing to see him back to his winning ways. We also talked about meeting his family and the hilarious conversations we had after they let us know that they watched the episode. We closed the episode talking about a controversial podcast clip that has been circulating in the Latino and especially Latino American community. Ybrazzy, a popular content creator, appeared on a glaringly staunch liberal podcast and has come under fire for not vehemently and completely declaring himself to be progressive. This leads us to pose the question: "In order to be a successful Latino content creator, do you have to be a liberal?" Joe has become a close collaborator and affiliate of On the Run and that is how we were introduced to Gabriel. One night while scrolling through TikTok live we heard Gabriel tell the heartbreaking story of how his son tragically took his life. This event eventually inspired him to create content where he spreads positivity and tries to shed light and awareness on mental health in order to try and prevent people from falling victim to the same thing that tragically took his son. This is probably the most inspirational story we've ever had on the podcast. This episode is in memory of Gabriel's son.
