In 2023 the Padres missed out on a Wild Card spot when they finished 2.0 games behind the Diamondsbacks, who went to the World Series. It's entirely possible the Friars could have made that run had they not had multiple injuries to All-Stars down the stretch. This year, things could be dramatically different.Point Loma Nazarene University and the Padres have put together a state-of-the-art biomechanics lab that's designed to maximize athletic performance while keeping players healthier longer. We're talking about some seriously high-tech stuff here. So, how does it work? The OnFriar Podcast went to the source to find out. PLNU Professor of Biomechanics and the President of the American Baseball Biomechanics Society explains how the game is utilizing science and how the new facility puts San Diego atop the field. The Padres will be in Peoria next week, so who better to get us geared up for Spring Training than a guy who knows this time of year well. Padres TV reporter Bob Scanlan shares his insight on the work that gets done this time of year. How does a prospect know when he's ready? And how much development can happen during the spring? What does Scan think of the re-tooled bullpen? Speaking of the bullpen, Josh Hader got some stuff off his chest about his last season in San Diego. There were finally some moves made around MLB this past week - but none by the Padres. Thankfully Jon & Jim were nice enough to help us kill some. We've seen Joe Musgrove do some team building; Mike Shildt check out another popular San Diego squad; the Padres release their 2024 giveaways; and players who'd fit with the Padres head elsewhere. Since trading Juan Soto to the Yankees the Padres have been quiet. Actually, all the business of Major League Baseball has kind of grinded to a halt. That may be about to change. While the league waits for one major domino to fall before making any major moves the Friars look like they've locked up a new closer who most fans in the United States aren't terribly familiar with. The Padres won a roller coaster of a game (and series) in Washington. Rougned Odor is swinging the bat like he's Ted Williams. Michael Wacha is pitching like he's playoff Michael Wacha from 2013. Just about the entire team seems like it's figuring out how to hit with runners in scoring position. On Friar is available on YouTube! While many people both inside and outside the organization are trying to figure out why one of the game's best collection of talent cannot seem to figure out how to score enough runs to support a pitching staff that's been among the league's best this season. On Friar is available on YouTube!
