Sooners fall to Bama 34-24 as OU blows a 17-point lead in the CFP. Again!

Oklahoma took a 17-0 lead to start the game and we had visions of a national championship running through our heads. Then things snowballed in Alabama's direction and the Sooners end up losing 34-24. Carey, Eddie and George are here to talk about how it all went wrong. We also talk about this season, that was one of our most enjoyable to cover in quite a long time. And where do we fall on the future of things inside the OU program? Is John Mateer still the answer at QB? Is Ben Arbuckle? And how the hell did this special teams unit fall apart at the most inopportune time? The Sooners brushed shoulders with greatness, but they failed to climb the mountain top. How far away is this team? What pieces do they need? What changes need to be made? All of that and more in the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Sooners find a way once again and now sit in the driver's seat for CFP spot

It definitely wasn't pretty on Saturday. But this is what we've learned about turnover margins. You have to work that much harder to overcome 3 interceptions. John Mateer struggled, but found enough magic to throw two long TD passes to Isaiah Sategna and Deion Burks. The defense sprinkled more magic of their own as Peyton Bowen jumped in the air and intercepted LSU in his own endzone after the Tigers had just returned a Mateer interception deep into OU territory. So are the Sooners an automatic selection into the College Football Playoff? The should be. And we have plenty of harsh words for those who are already trying to stir up controversy by saying they shouldn't be in the dance. The Sooners finish the regular season 10-2 and 6-2 in the SEC. And we have more football to play. But first, it's the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sooners win a rock fight with Missouri, move to 9-2

It's probably not a game you are going to make sure you re-watch on a loop, but OU's 17-6 win over Missouri proved their defense is one of the best in the country and one of the best of the last couple decades in Norman. We start with the defense and another elite performance from the Sooners even without R Mason Thomas. This team all but shut down Ahmad Hardy and the return of Beau Pribula wasn't gameplay. The Sooners still had all the answers for Missouri's offense. The OU offense? It was enough but not what Sooner fans are used to. The effort still came against what might be the best defense OU has faced this season. Carey, Eddie and George gather to discuss the win and the standout moments from the Sooners big win. We also talk about playoff scenarios as the upsets weren't really flowing on this Saturday. Where do the Sooners sit in a possible national title run? We break down how we see it moving forward. And George wants to remind you one more time: OU still has to beat LSU. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Did we just witness history with OU's 23-21 win over Alabama?

Oklahoma's 23-21 win over Alabama brings up so many questions about the future of Oklahoma football under the direction of Brent Venables. But first, let's recognize what a great win this was for the Sooners. It's a win many people didn't think this program was capable of pulling off. But they did it and now we must re-adjust our expectations. The Sooners look like a playoff team. But the win over Alabama was because of the defense and turnovers. Carey , Eddie and George join up to talk about the monumental win over Alabama. The offense, the defense and special teams that led to the win. The Sooners went in and did something few other teams in the SEC have done. It might mean they have finally joined the ranks of elite programs in the SEC. Just so much to discuss on this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sooners use defensive chaos early and a John Mateer comeback to beat Vols

A lot of people (COUGH COUGH... Eddie) didn't believe the Sooners could come to Tennessee. A lot of people can't be blamed. This program hasn't had a big road win in the SEC in the last two years. How would this be any different? It just finally was as the Sooners beat Tennessee on their own field 33-27. The defense kept the Sooners in it until the offense showed up in the second half. R Mason Thomas' 71-yard fumble return for a TD set the tempo. Tate Sandell's 3 field goals in the second quarter was another piece of the puzzle. But even though the Sooners made some awkward decisions late, they were able to survive an onside kick in two separate instances. And John Mateer actually looked like the John Mateer OU fans thought they were getting. Carey, Eddie and George are here to wrap it up on the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. We watched OU lose to Ole Miss and we're very confused about everything

The Sooners looked like crap early and then finally took the lead after picking themselves up off the mat in the third quarter. Before it all fell apart again. Penalties indicate all kinds of discipline issues with this team. So what is the biggest issues with this team? The head coach? The offensive coordinator? The quarterback? The attention to detail? The talent level? The playcalling? The gameplan? My gawd! We went through it all on this episode of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame podcast. Is this just life in the SEC when you aren't at the top? Did playing a top team like Ole Miss expose things we didn't feel like were major issues? Like skill talent on offense? And what is John Mateer as a quarterback? Is the SEC exposing him? Or is he struggling to play like himself as Dillon Gabriel first did when he arrived into the Oklahoma quarterback spotlight? Just get ready for some therapy. Is OU's 26-7 win over USC the start of something big on the O-Line?

Oklahoma's 26-7 win over South Carolina was another big step for Brent Venables and the offense after last week's disjointed loss to Texas. The offensive line looked like a real unit for the first time all season against an SEC opponent. Tory Blaylock ran for 100 yards and this time it wasn't Temple. Could this bet the start of something big for Bill Bedenbaugh and the offensive line? It wasn't always pretty. The punting was rough in the first half. The referees weren't a treat to watch either. But the Sooners came out of the halftime locker room swinging and had this game all but over with starting the fourth quarter. The defense looked like a unit ready to reclaim their status as one of the top units in the country. OU loss to Texas puts real problems out in the open on offense

Carey, Eddie and George are back inside the Cotton Bowl pressbox late into the night to hash out what they saw in Oklahoma's 23-6 loss to Texas on this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame. It seems like this keeps happening the same way lately!!! The offense not being able to run the football has become a huge problem. Not to mention Jaydn Ott was supposed to be a big answer to that problem. But he lasted about as long today as some employees at SoonerScoop that are never spoken of again. Should John Mateer have played? He looked like a quarterback who hadn't practiced in three weeks. Did all the espionage tactics work against the Sooners this week? At times, the Sooners didn't look a lot different than last year's Sooners. Which is scary. Where to the Sooners go from here? What do we make out to be the biggest problems on this team right now? OU gets the blowout 44-0 win over Kent State. Can Hawkins beat Texas?

It was as easy as everyone thought it would be. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, this game was over. In the end, the Sooners finish off their non-conference slate with a 44-0 win over Kent State. But all eyes were on Michael Hawkins Jr. The player who might have to start against Texas if John Mateer needs more time to recover from his thumb injury. What did the gang think about what they saw from Hawkins Saturday afternoon? And we got to see some flashes out of Jaydn Ott and Danny Okoye. That's what we wanted to see. Javonnie Gibson got his first snaps as a Sooner and Eli Bowen made it back in the secondary. But we all know what's ahead. It's Texas. So once again, how do we feel about facing a team that just lost to Florida before the OU game finished? #ad Visit EskridgeLexus.com or call 405-755-9000 and be a part of the Scoop's favorite fleet of vehicles. OU's defense too much for Jackson Arnold and Auburn to overcome

Oklahoma's matchup with Auburn was expected to be a difficult one. Some may have believed the Sooners might be able to blow out Auburn during Jackson Arnold's return to Norman. But Arnold was a gamer, and the OU rushing attack couldn't find room to run against the Auburn defense. But in the end, John Mateer made enough plays to complement the Sooners dominant defensive effort for a 24-17 win. The 4-0 Sooners now head into a bye week, but not before we break down everything we saw on Saturday afternoon on Owen Field. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

No letdown from Sooners who take care of business against Temple

The Sooners went out and took care of business against Temple winning 42-3 and displaying their dominance on defense. It was a promising development with Auburn coming to Norman next week. But there are some personnel concerns coming out of the game. R Mason Thomas was ejected for targeting and is facing a first half suspension next week. Will Brent Venables and the Sooners appeal the suspension? Also, one of OU's top receivers, Keontez Lewis left the game and could have suffered a concussion. We asked Brent Venables for an update after the game. And once again Jaydn Ott played in mop up duty once again. What's going on there? That's the bad and there was plenty of good to talk about on Saturday. Carey, Eddie and George break it all down as we have plenty of individuals to celebrate after this performance. No, the offense was not perfect. But it's better to be wanting more after putting up 42 points than it is to be upset at a total lack of production as we were game after game a year ago. And Tory Blaylock continues to impress. The true freshman looks every bit the part of RB1. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

OU's 24-13 win over Michigan makes a statement to the nation

Oklahoma defeats Michigan 24-13 in front of a nationally televised audience and they make a statement to the rest of college football. The Sooners are a team to be respected on both sides of the ball and John Mateer used his arm and his legs to put together a performance worthy of a Heisman Trophy candidate. The OU defense pummeled Michigan's physical offense throughout the day. And even though some special teams miscues took away from the overall performance of the win, this is an OU team that looks like it can turn around and start competing at a level OU fans expect. Mateer impressed, offensive line did not in 35-3 opening win

John Mateer set the OU school record for passing yards in a debut as he threw for 392 yards and 3 TDs against Illinois State in a 35-3 win. But there were some issues. The running game couldn't get going and that was largely part to an inconsistent offensive line that saw several players being swapped for others throughout the night. Defensively, it was solid but not dominating up front. And we saw a lot of wrinkles from Brent Venables with different personnel packages. One of the players who really emerged Saturday evening was tight end Jaren Kanak. Who might single handedly save the tight end position at OU. And we think the Sooners might have found a punt returner. Carey, Eddie and George break it all down in your first 2025 Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. OU defense gives up big plays in 37-17 loss. On to big changes

The Sooners went into Baton Rouge expected to give LSU everything they wanted after a big win over Alabama last week. But as has happened with other road SEC contests, the Sooners let a productive first half give way to mistakes in the second half. That offense that looked so capable against Alabama disappeared. Jackson Arnold's legs kept things going for a while. But when the Sooners fell behind after a kickoff return for a touchdown and two long TD passes, OU's offensive line turned back into swiss cheese. Arnold couldn't find open receivers or didn't have time to scan the field for open receivers. The running game wasn't what we had seen building over the last month. And all of a sudden, the defense was giving up huge TD passes to a hobbled Garrett Nussmeier. But in the end, it was the end of a poor regular season. The bowl game will probably look like a mash unit after the transfer portal and players sitting out are known. But all eyes turn to OU's next offensive coordinator. The decision is expected to be known in the next few days. The gang talks about what they know on the process and what names they are hearing floating around. Come for the on the field football anger, stay for the more calm talk of the future and what is next for Brent Venables as he tries to right the ship and fix this OU football program. Sooners beat Bama 24-3 giving Venables a signature SEC win

Oklahoma beats Alabama 24-3 and we could not be more shocked and surprised. The gang was there for the field storming through the postgame press conferences and have a lot to talk about. What does this win mean for the future of recruiting and the attractiveness of the offensive coordinator search? Does it take some heat off of Brent Venables for another year? And how could this affect recruiting? Michael Fasusi still hasn't decommitted from the Sooners. What it must of been like to see that score from Austin? The Sooners may not have fixed everything, but this team has developed physicality that is winning battles against some of the SEC's best. And Xavier Robinson took another massive leap tonight. Jackson Arnold's future? We had a chance to catch up with him to take his temperature on what the future holds. And plenty of breakdown from a defense that was just dominant from beginning to end for the first time this season. It's time to try on happy Sooner fans. Let's go! Learn more about your ad choices. U40: How much damage did this Missouri disaster do?

The Sooners held a 23-16 lead with 2:00 remaining in their matchup with Missouri. All they needed was one more defensive stop. It never came. And then Jackson Arnold fumbled the ball and Missouri scooped and scored to take an improbable 30-26 lead. The people are gonna want answers. Carey, Eddie and George broke down how they saw this game, the issues, the people responsible for the loss and where this program goes from here. You don't want to miss it. George actually quit the pod at one point. Carey needed to edit a lot of f-bombs after it was all over. What the hell? Running back rotation? Receiver rotation? Arnold's confidence? The offensive gameplan? OU's collapse on defense? How much is Brent Venables responsible for? Is his job on the line? Eskridge Lexus Postgame: What we take from OU's 59-14 win over Maine

Oklahoma beats Maine 59-14 and we honestly are trying to figure out what to make of it. The offense built on their run game after last week's success against Ole Miss a week ago. Jovantae Barnes had a career day with 203 yards on the ground and is starting to show the reason he was so highly thought of even after battling injuries earlier in his career. Jackson Arnold came up with explosive plays in the passing game, including a 90-yard TD pass to J.J. Hester. The longest ever by an OU receiver on Owen Field. The defense gave up a drive early but stiffened mightily until late in the game. What does this performance mean moving forward for the Sooners as they get back to SEC play next week against Missouri. Bowl eligibility is on the line as well. A lot of time for youngsters on the offensive line, new combinations in the secondary... There is no shortage of things to breakdown from a day full of playing time for those deeper down on the roster. * Eskridge Lexus is the presenting sponsor for the Postgame podcast. Are we more or less upset after this loss to Ole Miss?

The Sooners headed to Ole Miss down a 20-point underdog. No one expected the Sooners to bring home a win, but they entered halftime with a 14-10 lead after Jackson Arnold and the OU offense put together a couple of methodical drives and the defense turned back the Rebels time and time again. But the second half was a different story. An offensive line that played their best half since starting SEC play, fell apart. They collapsed. And OU's chances at winning went with it. A couple of busts in the OU defensive secondary helped Jaxon Dart and the Ole Miss offense take the lead. And Jackson Arnold ended up being sacked 10 times on the day. All of this coming on the heels of Joe Jon Finley taking over as the offensive playcaller after Seth Littrell was fired following the loss to South Carolina. There were positives. There were negatives. And the Sooners now must move forward wondering if this thing is ever going to look like something heading in the right direction. Learn more about your ad choices. Oklahoma loss to S. Carolina puts a lot of people on the hot seat

It's the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast and no one holds back on this edition after the Sooners have hit new lows with a 35-9 loss to South Carolina. Carey, Josh, Eddie and George have plenty to say. Some of it had to be bleeped out. Is Brent Venables forced to make changes offensively after the most recent loss? Where does Bill Bedenbaugh sit in all of this? The offensive line is terrible. And it's killing this season. Jackson Arnold took back the quarterback position after Michael Hawkins had three turnovers and gave the Gamecocks a 21-0 lead before most people had their pregame buzz wear off. And what does Brent Venables have to do now? Is his job on the line? Lots to chew on and lots for you to digest. * Eskridge Lexus is the presenting sponsor for the Postgame podcast. OU's offense officially embarrassing in 34-3 loss to Texas

The Sooners' offense has become one of the most inept units in the country. And today's 34-3 loss to Texas took things to a new low. With two weeks to prepare, the offensive staff laid an egg on the Cotton Bowl turf. Texas picked up those eggs and threw them at the OU defense, crushing their spirit with every three-and-out from Seth Littrell's offense. Carey, Eddie and George convene to talk about what we saw today and how bad it really was. The questions are being asked. Should Seth Littrell be relieved of playcalling duties? Should he be fired? Should OU go back to Jackson Arnold after seeing what Michael Hawkins did today? We break it all down from our perspective. And how responsible is Brent Venables in all of this? How much are the players responsible? One thing we do know. Texas has more explosive players at several positions. More than the Sooners might have even when healthy. How did this happen? This offense and team have life after a 27-21 win over Auburn

It seemed like this game and this season were on the brink as the Sooners fell down 21-10 to Auburn. This was a team the Sooners circled as a win in the offseason. But with this offense, anything had become possible. Carey, Eddie and George regroup from the game and get down to business to discuss one of the greatest road comebacks in recent OU history. This doesn't mean everything is fixed, but the Sooners have a week off before the Red River Rivalry. Michael Hawkins Jr., showed us something at quarterback. The OU defense continues to play with grit and determination. They haven't had a lot of support, but they step up and make plays when it matters. Just as R Mason Thomas did once again on Saturday. Add Brenen Thompson, Bauer Sharp and J.J. Hester as capable and potentially reliable targets for Hawkins. The offensive line wasn't perfect, but they appeared to improve against a decent defensive line. In the end, the Sooners scored the only points of the fourth quarter. Even Zach Schmit stepped up with two big field goals. It's the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The offense is a disaster so OU starts over with Michael Hawkins Jr.

The Sooners lose to Tennessee 25-15 in one of the most frustrating offensive outings since Bob Stoops took over for John Blake in 1998. This OU offense hasn't just regressed, it's disappeared completely. It looks like Michael Hawkins Jr., will be the near future. But with lots of tough opponents still to be played, the prospects for the season just took a nose dive on Owen Field tonight. Could changes be on the horizon? Carey, Eddie and George break it all down. What are we most concerned about? Who deserves the blame for all of this? Is Jackson Arnold done at OU? How many more games can OU win playing at this level? It was a very concerning performance and has us questioning just about everything going on inside the Switzer Center. This was not a drunk pod, but it probably set the record for f-bombs in a pod. We found at least 17 of them. And we think we caught them all. But we all lost our minds at one point or another while recording this pod. Come enjoy the madness with us, won't you? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

POSTGAME: OL makes progress, Jackson runs and defense comes up big in the end

Josh has joined the postgame pod this week along with Carey, Eddie and George. We're taking a deep dive into OU's 34-19 win. Maybe this is therapy? Maybe it's a little bit of frustration release? Maybe we don't even know what we're doing. Carey certainly can't remember anyone's name anymore. Eddie can't pronounce them. The Offensive line was better. At least for a little while. Then it was very bad. We have the plan for OU's offensive line moving forward because it's clear the best advice comes from the Internet. Jackson Arnold should stop running so much. But maybe he should start running more. Gameday is coming to town next week. Good thing or bad thing? OK, this team may not be a juggernaut, but it's starting to improve in some areas. And there's still no sign of Nic Anderson or Branson Hickman. And even less of a sign of Andrel Anthony. So if you are riding with the team that brought you, this is the team. Oklahoma's 51-3 win over Temple not exactly without flaws

The Oklahoma Sooners get the season opening blowout win over Temple as expected. But there are certainly areas of concern for fans and critics. Most notably, an offensive line that looked shaky at best. The lack of a running game against an overmatched opponent until Taylor Tatum took over late was disappointing. And an injury to Jalil Farooq that will sideline him for an extended period of time is concerning. Carey, Eddie and George are here after coming back to the Campus Corner studios from the stadium to break it all down. And it wasn't all concerning, the defense was stifling most of the night forcing turnover after turnover. The kicking game was even a major bright spot. And it appears Brent Venables defense is ready to take things to another level in year three. It's week one. So plenty of this is overreaction or reaction unjustified. Are the Sooners going to be an explosive offense in 2024?

Carey, Eddie and George are here to breakdown what they saw from the Sooners on offense and defense in the annual Red & White Game. The biggest story was the connection between Jackson Arnold and Deion Burks. Burks looks like a star and the offensive line actually did a nice job blocking for the running backs and giving Arnold some protection. We'll go over who played, who sat out and who didn't play well. And Jovantae Barnes continues to be a mystery. He suited out, but didn't play in the scrimmage. And pretty much every other running back on the roster did play. The defense had plenty of moments too. The defensive line flashed a little bit. Gracen Halton, Davon Sears, David Stone and Jayden Jackson had their moments. P.J. Adebowore also had moments along with R Mason Thomas and Ethan Downs. We're breaking it all down. Secondary, linebackers, defensive line, quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, tight ends, special teams, you name it. All right here on the Eskridge Lexus Postgame podcast. U40: OU beats TCU 69-45, finishes 10-2 on the season

Oklahoma finished out the regular season by beating TCU 69-45. It wasn't a pretty game defensively but offensively, it was a great way to send out Dillon Gabriel and Drake Stoops. Brent Venables has gone from 6-7 to 10-2 and we take some time to celebrate what that should mean moving forward. And what about players like Danny Stutsman, Jalil Farooq and Billy Bowman. Will they be back with the Sooners next year? What about the transfer portal? What do the Sooners need to add? They can't take everyone. So where do they go to fill the biggest holes? That's what she said. Eddie and George turned this into a family Thanksgiving by picking at each other throughout the pod. And we show plenty of appreciation for the things Dillon Gabriel did for this program over the last couple of years. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

OU wins 31-24 over BYU. But lose Gabriel for second half

It was not an easy victory. BYU put up a fight on a rainy day that made a sloppy field even more sloppy. But the concerning part of the day was losing Dillon Gabriel just before halftime to a concussion. So the question becomes whether he can be ready to play on a short week as the Sooners take on TCU Friday at 11am. The Sooners did have Jackson Arnold behind Gabriel. But as he got his feet wet as the OU starter, Gavin Sawchuk got his feet red hot as he broke off some big runs and housed it from 16 yards out. The defense wasn't great. Part of that could have been Danny Stutsman battling through food poisoning. But the secondary is getting thin and it's starting to become a problem for a team that gave up too many chunk plays. Lebby shows offense can still impress in 59-20 rout of WVU

The Sooners did it. They got a lead and built on it and built on it and built on it. Even when West Virginia took the ball 75 yards in four plays to start the game, OU answered with a 75-yard, 4 play drive of their own. Dillon Gabriel passed for 5 TDs and ran for 3. There was a brawl in the endzone, Danny Stutsman was back and leading the team in tackles. Kip Lewis started over Jaren Kanak. Drake Stoops has turned into a beast over the past two weeks and we're up late to make sure we get this thing out there. Carey and George try and explain the Big 12 tiebreaker rules even though they barely can put together sentences at this time of the morning. Basically Texas losing to Iowa State is the best medicine. And if you thought OU's Texas hangover was bad, wait until you see Oklahoma State's Bedlam hangover. We breakdown the big win and the crowd's distaste for referees. Learn more about your ad choices. U40: The Bedlam loss has broken us (but mainly George)

Oklahoma loses Bedlam 27-24. Later that evening three dudes get together to talk about what happened. We've crossed some boundaries here. I will admit that. This is not the podcast to listen to with children in the car. George is fed up with this season. And he lets all of us know it. The offense continues to suffer from prosperity allergies. They just don't have a killer instinct. The defense wasn't perfect, but they were damn good at times even without Danny Stutsman. We can complain about every position on offense. But in the end, it's not cohesive, it's not reliable and it remains the most inconsistent offense we've seen in years. There's going to be a lot of hate flowing this week. Some of it came during this pod. Hopefully this is a cathartic listen and not a tough one for all the fans out there trying to figure out how the Sooners fix this. Learn more about your ad choices. OU has problems on offense and it starts with the coaches

Eddie and George are in Lawrence, Kan., and they have just watched the Sooners fall to the Kansas Jayhawks for the first time since 1997. This isn't a drunk pod, but you might call it the accusation pod. Or the complaint department pod. We breakdown what we saw today on both sides of the ball. It was another disjointed performance by an OU offense that wasn't supposed to be facing a great defense. There were too many penalties, too many turnovers and too many reminders of how bad this team was a year ago. Because this team is starting to look a little bit like last year's squad. Is Jeff Lebby big enough for this job? We actually have to ask that question after the last two offensive performances. With Bedlam on the horizon, this team needs to get it together fast. Or they could get embarrassed in the last Bedlam game as we know it. It was not a good day and we want answers. Join us on this week's Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. U40: The postgame gets heated as OU barely wins against UCF

Carey, Josh, Eddie and George all jump in and go after the issues after the Sooners squeak out a 31-29 victory over UCF on Owen Field. The offense and special teams set a very ominous tone on an afternoon that had fans wanting to support their conquering Red River Rivalry foes. But the Sooners came out uninspired on offense and incapable on special teams. The defense did it's job, but the rest was a little too white knuckle for anyone's taste. We talk about the Tawee Walker suspension, what this close win means going forward, the state of the Big 12, the state of the running back room and much, much more. It's almost a full crew. Eddie was a few beers deep. We also go through the short list of stock up from today's game. There were some positives. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Gabriel helps cap a game for the ages in OU's 34-30 win over Texas

Eddie said it best in this podcast. Brent Venables Oklahoma football program just accelerated during today's 34-30 win over the Texas Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. Dillon Gabriel put together a performance for the ages and any Sooner fans on the fence about how far he can lead this OU team has to adjust their thinking. Gabriel was magical at times with his feet. He made a lot of big plays with his arm. And the biggest throw of the day with just :15 seconds left. It gave the Sooners an improbable comeback victory. But it wasn't just the offense. OU's defense came in and went toe-to-toe with a team everything thought would be more physical than the Sooners. In fact, both sides of the line were the more physical units for most of the game. Carey, Eddie and George break it all down and give their biggest takeaways from an incredible day in Dallas. Gabriel looks better than the defense in 50-20 win. OU-TX up next.

The Eskridge Lexus Postgame is here as Carey, Eddie and George breakdown OU's 50-20 win over Iowa State. But who are we kidding? OU-TX is coming and it's going to be one of the biggest games in years inside the Cotton Bowl. We give Dylan Gabriel his leis, and we talk about the defensive lapses in the first half. We go stock up and stock down with George for the first time. Some harsh grading was made. But we also get a head start on the matchup with Texas, the mentality of OU's team right now and how that will mesh with Texas' big game experience so far this season. So much to go over and so much to talk about this coming week. It gets started right here. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

OU defense turning into a menace as OU wins 20-6

Oklahoma traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats in their first true road test. Amongst a rowdy crowd the Sooners missed some opportunities to separate themselves early. Dillon Gabriel missed some deep balls to open receivers but overall put together a winning performance. The run game is as perplexing as ever as only Marcus Major and Tawee Walker took snaps. But the defense was there to hold it all together. Danny Stutsman had 13 tackles to lead the defense and it's clear Brent Venables has changed the mentality of this unit. Key Lawrence continues to come on and Billy Bowman made a reception deep in OU territory as well. Sooners rout Tulsa 66-17. The good, the bad and the not so ugly

Carey links up with Eddie and George who are live from The University of Tulsa's H.A. Chapman Stadium. We talk about the explosive day for Dillon Gabriel and the young players who emerged at receiver and on both sides of the ball. Suddenly that receiving corps has life and looks great. What about the running game? And how is the offensive line coming along. The defense had mostly good moments but Kevin Wilson did some stuff to that secondary that shows work is still needed. But what do we really take from this? We saw this team fall apart after an impressive win on the road in Nebraska a year ago. Well, Cincinnati is up next and they will be plenty mad after dropping an unexpected one tonight during the pod. All your postgame coverage and thoughts right here on the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Oh yeah, and what about the Jackson Arnold package? We have lots to say on that one. A 28-11 SMU wins shows concerns on offense

Carey, Eddie and George are here for the Eskridge Lexus Postgame podcast where we breakdown the Sooners 28-11 victory over the SMU Mustangs. The defense was awesome and Danny Stutsman looks like the guy we always thought he could be. In fact, we talk about a lot of different players on the defense who stood out Saturday evening. But we don't have as many stars to talk about on the offensive side of the ball outside of Tawee Walker. We can sprinkle in some Andrel Anthony, Jalil Farooq and Marcus Major (at the end of the game), but there was too much inconsistency. And what was up with the Jackson Arnold plan? We have doubts moving forward. There was also the little incident of Art Briles showing up after the game and hanging out on Owen Field with OU Jordan gear on. People are not happy in our jTwitter/X mentions over this. Tulsa is coming next week but we give you almost a full hour of late night thoughts on what we saw against SMU. Brent Venables opens season 2 with a complete blowout victory

The Oklahoma Sooners took out Arkansas State like we've rarely seen in a season opener at home. The 73-0 was complete and showed very few flaws in the first game coming off a 6-7 season in 2022. Dillon Gabriel through for 308 yards on 19-of-22 passing and 2 TDs. When the second half started with a 45-0 score, Gabriel's day was done. He handed off the keys to Jackson Arnold, who went 11-for-11 for 114 yards and 1 TD. Josh, Carey, Eddie and George are all here to break it down. We even dig into the Tawee Walker discussion from last week. Running backs, receivers, safeties, corners.. we cover all the positions. There was a lot to see on Owen Field Saturday afternoon. And we break it all down. And also, what happened at Lindsey Street? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Fans get plenty of QB looks in spring game but defense impresses

Sooners fans got a chance to see an extended look at freshman five-star Jackson Arnold at today's Red & White scrimmage. How did the guys see things? Dillon Gabriel ran with the first team offense all day and had his moments after a slow start. In the end, the defense was the most impressive part of today's scrimmage. The transfer portal appears to have been kind to Brent Venables on defense. We break down everything we saw. The running game? Broken down. The receivers? Broken down? The defensive line? You get it. We broke it down. Eddie had a cringy moment near the end of the scrimmage and Carey attacks George over his watch. Welcome back Eskridge Lexus Postgame. Even if just for one brief podcast. Sooners fall in Cheez-It Bowl but optimism remains

Carey and Eddie finally sit down back in Norman to record the Eskridge Lexus Postgame pod/season wrap-up episode. The Sooners finished the season with a 6-7 record and it's still a losing record. Not something that will ever be acceptable at Oklahoma. But major questions marks were getting ready to greet us heading into the offseason. And with the way the offensive line played, the way Gavin Sawchuck performed and there are fewer issues than we might have thought. The Sooners could have been blown out in Orlando with the opt-outs and injuries. But they battled, and almost pulled out a victory. Ultimately, the Sooners will have to improve for Brent Venables to build the legacy he hopes to build in Norman. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's over. OU loses and finishes 6-6 in the regular season.

Everyone is back from Lubbock and we're ready to talk about it. The Sooners lose the regular season finale in OT to Texas Tech. Carey and Eddie start things out and Josh joins us as he returns home from his trip to Oklahoma. What went wrong and how it gets fixed. What does Brent Venables need to do to fix the problems with game management. How does he need to fix things with Jeff Lebby and the offense that just can't go fast enough for him, even when it hurts the Sooners' chances of winning? What changes do we see coming? What players are in and who is out? And how is the culture of this team after 12 games and a lot of disappointment? Josh joins in about 40 minutes in to give his thoughts on what he saw this weekend and throughout the season. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A Bedlam victory and a great defensive effort

The Oklahoma Sooners move to 6-5 and make themselves bowl eligible with a win over Oklahoma State Saturday night on Owen Field. It was also senior night and Drake Stoops was one of the brightest offensive stars of the night. But the offensive stars took a backseat the defense which intercepted four passes from Spencer Sanders and kept getting big stop after big stop even when the offense wasn't helping. And the offense wasn't just not helping, they were actually hurting the defense but going three-and-out and not taking enough time off the clock. For all the blame we've lobbed on players for not seeming to care about their performances this season, it was the coaching staff that stood out the most in Bedlam as they failed to control the clock on offense and kept opening the door for Oklahoma State to make a comeback. Carey and Eddie discuss it all in this Bedlam victory edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

WVU loss: What is the give a crap level of OU players?

Eddie is headed back to Pittsburgh after another terrible loss by the Oklahoma Sooners. Carey is back at the office ready to tear this program down to the studs. Losing 23-20, the Sooners have us shaking our heads once again and now we're questioning even more. The coaches don't escape the criticism this time around. But Carey and Eddie noticed some things in the post game interviews tonight. Eddie also noticed something in the defeated players coming off the field. We're diving into why this team isn't getting better and what it could be about the makeup of this locker room that could lead to such dismal results on the field after 10 games. This team is 5-5. 5-5!!!!!! How can they sleep at night? The only way that's easy is if you just don't care. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sooners fall to Baylor and we have strong opinions

There were a lot of emotions running throughout the Baylor game. And when it was over, there were lots of emotions about the loss. Here's the thing, Carey, Josh and Eddie got together after to record the Eskridge Lexus Postgame pod. And we had serious thoughts about what the loss should mean for fans. We're no longer talking about conventional changes on the roster or the on the staff. We want OU fans to grab some perspective. The look at the rest of the season a certain way, and judge everything based on that. There is no Big 12 title game, no playoff and not even a bowl game at this point. The Sooners went toe-to-toe with another middling Big 12 team and this time it wasn't a total debacle. But there were still way too many mistakes to stomach. This team doesn't have the right stuff. How Venables and the staff and the players finish out the season will say more about the future of this program than the 9 games we've seen so far. Learn more about your ad choices. Sooners handle Iowa State 27-13, defense looks sound again

The Sooners traveled to Ames, Iowa, to face an Iowa State team that had lost four straight. But those were all close losses and the Sooners have a recent history of struggles against the Iowa State defense. It was also a case of wondering if the defense was going to show improvements after a bye week and some time to get fresh legs. It all worked out as the Sooners got a win 27-13. Jeff Lebby seemed to have Matt Campbell's offense figured out at times, but dropped passes and untimely penalties derailed some solid early drives. Thanks to kicker Zach Schmit, the Sooners took a 13-0 lead before Dillon Gabriel and the offense added more conventional TDs in the second half. The defense took a noticeable step forward as well although it wasn't perfect. Iowa State ended up throwing the ball 57 times on the day as the Sooners were stout against the run. But with three interceptions and the emergence of DaShaun White as the cheetah position, OU looked dominating at times. Iowa State did squeak back into the game, but Michael Turk finally made his presence known by pinning the Cyclones deep in their own territory late in the game. Overall a solid win and Carey and Eddie broke it down on this week's episode of the Eskridge Lexus postgame podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A much needed win against Kansas

The Sooners hit Owen Field Saturday facing a surprisingly strong Kansas team. At times this looked like a blowout. At times it looked like the Oklahoma team that had lost three straight coming into this one. In the end, the Sooners held on to a lead that seemed like it should have been bigger. Dillon Gabriel threw for over 400 yards. No one was thinking about the last two weeks and the backup QB situation. And the defense started strong and finished with a whimper. All in all, the Sooners got a victory. And it's exactly what they needed heading into a bye week. But most importantly we saw some progress. And the goal is to continue seeing more and more as the season progresses. Eddie and Carey hung out in the office and knocked out a Saturday pod for the first time in weeks.
